WhatsApp will soon roll out the Linked devices section that would enable multi-device support.
According to a report by WABetainfo, the new “linked devices” screen was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.20.143
🇿🇦🌍https://illovuonline.news.blog/
The multi-device support would allow users to operate a single account on multiple devices. In the latest screenshot shared by WAbetainfo, Linked Devices will most likely allow WhatsApp users to link new devices. The message on the screenshot reads, “Use WhatsApp on other devices. Send or receive messages from your browser computer or Facebook portal.”
It is also worth noting that WhatsApp will recommend to use a Wi-Fi connection to log in on a new device. It is believed a WiFi connection will be needed as it is likely that the app will copy your chat history on the new device.
When the multi-device feature is active, a ll your devices that has WhatsApp installed will receive incoming messages and all actions will be synced (for example, starring a message, muting and archiving a chat.)
WhatsApp users around the world anticipate the feature as it will allow users to log in from different devices without having to create a separate account. For instance, if you are already using WhatsApp in your phone, all you have to do is enter your phone number and log in to WhatsApp in your iPad as well.
In a bonus move, every time a user logs in from a new device, WhatsApp will send a notification to its contacts. The encryption keys will be change after every new login.
It also means that you won’t be disconnected from your main device when you try to log in from a different phone.
The feature is currently under development and Google will roll out the update most likely according to WhatsApp preferences.

On 5 May 2020, the commissioner for the South African Revenue Service (SARS) provided a detailed account of projected revenue collection in light of the Covid-19 crisis, along with insight of what we can expect from the tax collector in coming months.
Jean du Toit, head of tax technical at Tax Consulting SA, unpacked the most important aspects of Edward Kieswetter’s address below:
Pensive statement – the first thing many would notice is how comprehensive this statement is, and it is clear the Commissioner poured a lot of thought into it.
Arguably it was not incumbent for him to go to such lengths, but it reveals the gravity of the message he wanted to convey and also the context to what taxpayers may experience from SARS in the coming months.
SARS officials returning to work – following a period where SARS operated with staffing levels of between 15 and 30%, its employees will now start returning to work – to meet taxpayer demands and, most importantly, to deliver on its mandate to collect revenue, said Du Toit.
Grim economic outlook – with a struggling economy pre-Covid-19, the credit rating downgrade and the prevailing crisis it is anticipated that our economy will contract by between 5.4% and 16%.
“Frankly this is a staggering statistic, but a crisis of this magnitude has a devastating snowball effect where we end up with less participants in the economy on the one hand and more being reliant on government support on the other,” said Du Toit.
Decreased revenue collection – April yielded a significant decline in revenue collection from the previous year, totalling a drop of R9 billion (-8.8%). The slide was experienced across all tax types – PAYE (-5.2%); domestic VAT (-4.3%); overall import tax (-19.7%); specific excise duties (-54%); and CIT (-55.4).
“SARS does not expect our fortunes to change any time soon and estimates that revenue collection could be R285 billion below the amount projected in the budget in February,” said Du Toit.
Job losses and failing businesses – SARS looked at the tax directives finalised during April which reveals that over 20 000 employees were retrenched during April.
“According to figures sourced from STATS SA, prospects for businesses look equally dire – liquidations increased by 12.3%, 46.4% of businesses have temporarily closed their doors and 54% of businesses predict they could not survive beyond the three-month mark of the pandemic.”
An improved SARS – it seems we are dealing with a vastly improved SARS. The institution has shown its agility in operating effectively during these times, whilst observing the spirit of the lockdown. SARS also used this time smartly to improve the integrity and effectiveness of their systems.
“It is clear the commissioner appreciates the challenge that lies ahead and he and those around him have developed a clear 3-step plan to enforce compliance and optimise revenue collection in the coming months,” said Du Toit.
Third party information – the Commissioner made it clear SARS will rely more heavily on information sourced from banks, employers, financial services companies who administer retirement funds and insurance schemes to assess taxpayers.
“It will also use information available from the population register, the companies register and the Deeds Office to triangulate taxpayer information.
“This is an encouraging initiative, as these sources were vastly underutilised in the past. Items such as rental income not disclosed will be easily detected if SARS compares its records with that of the Deeds Office,” the tax expert said.
Aggressive enforcement – the statement does not expressly warn taxpayers of this, but with the current permutations, SARS’ hands are tied; it has no choice but to extract every penny from the tax base. With the exigence to collect taxes and enhanced capacity, we are expecting more audits and a tougher SARS in the coming months.
“Those who historically had the nerve to try their luck with SARS should think carefully before they choose to run the gauntlet again this year,” said Du Toit.
Individual wealth no. 1 on the list – all tax types are under-performing as a result of the pandemic, but some will be under more pressure than others. Businesses are collapsing, with more to follow, and those who manage to stay afloat may report losses for the foreseeable future, which means corporate income tax will fall sharply.
The contraction in the economy and the restriction of many activities mean less transactions which impacts heavily an VAT. The same rationale applies to imports and exports where customs revenue will see a significant drop, not to mention the loss in excise duties from the prohibition on sales of alcohol and tabacco.
“This leaves us with personal income tax where we will see a decline but perhaps not as piercing. The over-taxed minority will potentially face an even heavier burden this season, as SARS will have to extract all it can from those with the means to contribute. SARS will no longer shut its eyes to trust structures, rental properties and offshore assets,” said Du Toit.
Commissioner’s report card – Edward Kieswetter closed off by reflecting on his first year as Commissioner. Lest we forget, when he assumed his position, SARS faced a serious breakdown of governance and integrity, with structures and employee relationships left festering.
“From our perspective, the commissioner is dedicated to serving a higher purpose and he has a clear vision on what he wishes to achieve, which is to restore SARS as a respected institution that serves compliant taxpayers as it should, whilst being equally tough on transgressors.
“Thus far, we have seen positive initiatives being rolled out in achieving this vision and while the wheels may turn slowly, SARS appears to be on the right track,” said Du Toit.

With Nasty C On His Forthcoming Def Jam Debut ‘Zulu Man With Some Power’
By: illovuonline news team
10-05-2020
Image: supplied
Nasty C—born into this world as Nsikayesizwe David Ngcobo—has been on the precipice of even bigger things for a while now. Ever since breaking out onto the music scene as the self-dubbed “coolest kid in Africa,” he’s constantly been trying to top his previous move. From a fledgling young producer who started creating beats at the age of 9 to impress his older brother in their Durban home, Nasty C has now become a multi-platinum-selling award-winning artist who just made history signing an exclusive pact with Def Jam Recordings.
The 23-year-old’s rhymes and beats made him Apple Music’s most-streamed artist in South Africa for the past 4 years, buoyed by his mixtapes and albums Bad Hair(2016) and Strings and Bling (2018). His latest album, the forthcoming Zulu Man with Some Power, continues to draw anticipation with each month that passes. It was due out in May but the coronavirus lockdown has meant a readjustment on the release date. Much like a blockbuster movie where the actors can’t tell you many details until it releases but they assure you it’s going to be good, Nasty promises his fans Zulu Man will be worth the wait.
Nasty C spoke to OkayAfrica during the South African lockdown from his home in Joburg, where he recorded the Lost FilesEP he put out on YouTube a few days after the Def Jam news broke.
How are you doing during the lockdown?
It’s very boring. I’ve always been the type to stay at home, anyway. But it’s bad out there. Deep in the hood, people are being unruly. Breaking into liquor stores and stuff like that.
How long did you have to sit on the secret of your signing to Def Jam?
I’ve had to keep this secret since about a year ago, in February, or maybe before. My second encounter with No I.D. was when we really started to think that Def Jam might maybe be in the picture. ‘Cause at the time it was nothing formal but we were having a lot of dinners and stuff like that every time I was that side [in the US]. So, it’s been over a year now.
How did he end up becoming a mentor to you? I know he was one of the people you always looked up to?
I’m not sure why he came down to South Africa at first, in 2018, but part of his agenda was to meet me. That’s when we really started having conversations about music, culture and stuff like that, and really working on a sound that would be distinct enough for people to pick up that’s it not from the States, since you’re making this global move, but also not too harsh for them to digest, and also not too far from what I’ve always been doing—because that would just be weird, if I just all of a sudden started [ululates] my music.
When Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin created Def Jam they were also in their twenties, like you are now…
I see myself becoming one of them. I already have a record label [Tall Racks] that I am already working on. It’s doing pretty good. But just thinking beyond my music career, about being a boss like they are, that’s definitely the main inspiration as to why I’m really doing this. People like them and Hov.
Where did the Lost Files come from—they’re songs you discarded over the years?
It’s a nice little teaser. Some are very old, “Forever” is 4/5 years old. They’re songs that didn’t make it onto certain projects, songs that ended up as just ideas, that I never really got the time to finish, or I didn’t really want to finish, because I didn’t feel like it. I have a lot of those in the vault. Sometimes it kind of hurts seeing myself move on and being so sure that I’m never going to put that song out even though I like it. So we found a way to work around that.
I understand you had to discard some songs for your upcoming album Zulu Man with Some Power, you’ve said previously you had 47 songs and cut it down to 16, broken down into four sections?
Not any more. When I did that I was too focused on the thematic side of things, as far as the album goes, trying to maintain a theme from track one to the end, and have a nice flow to it. I guess I ended up being a little narrow-minded and so focused on that one thing that I left out some joints that my team members were, like, ‘that’s my fave song, how could you leave that out?’ So when we had the last listening session, I had to bring a couple back in. We’re now looking at 20.
Nasty C – There They Go (Official Music Video)www.youtube.com
The album was announced a year after Strings and Bling. How has it changed in the time since you first announced it up until now? Given all the people you’ve since met and the places you’ve travelled to like Japan how has that changed the album? Has it?
It changed things, but only on the sonic side. The theme of the album and what it stands for, none of that has changed. It’s just getting inspired every time I travel and work with someone new. Being in studio with new producers has shifted and shaped and moulded the sound of it.
It must have been filled with big moments too?
I worked with ATL Jacob, Future’s producer. That’s one of my favorite producers in the world. That was crazy!
And what about song with T.I.? He was the first rapper you ever liked…
🇿🇦🌍https://illovuonline.news.blog/
It’s a very special, very mellow cool song. Just one of those. It’s called “All In.” The first time I paid attention to music was him rapping. I have’t really met him but I don’t think I’d be disappointed. It really felt like everything came back full circle when he reached out to me. The first time he called me was through a song, when I was 9 years old. The second time he called me was to say, ‘yo, let’s work.’ I had to step outside and catch some air for a second.
What song was that, when you were
9?
It was “Top Back,” the remix with Young Jeezy on it.
Can you share what the theme of the album will be?
I can’t. But I have the first draft of the artwork, which is coming out soon. There’s a big visual side to the album. Everyone will get the theme as soon as they see it.
Music video director Andrew Sandler went to Durban to shoot the video for your new single “There They Go.” What was it like working with him?
That was dope! What I liked the most about it is, whenever you bring an outsider to come see your home base they always recognize some things that might be invisible to you. You might be oblivious to some things because you grew up around them. There’s nothing special about them to you. And when he came out here, he really started looking at the scenery in Durban, the landscape, and that made me appreciate Durban a little bit more. It was also my birthday that day. It was a good day for me, plus he had just came back from shooting for Lil’ Wayne, who is also one of my idols. That was a crazy week for me!
When you look back, when was the moment you knew people were responding to your words, your raps?
I started copying T.I.’s lyrics or Lil’ Wayne’s lyrics and then changing a few words to make it sound like it was mine, rapping to my brothers at home. Then I started changing all the words. I started re-making their beats and using my own words. Then when I started sending that out on BBM and mixtapes, people really started to fuck with it, and I got contacted by a rapper from Johannesburg, when I had never left the city. Getting a reach-out from somebody in another city—saying they like music and they want to work with me – that was when I realized, ‘oh shit, this could really happen.’ That was when I started to take a deep dive into my lyrics and writing my story, and the more I did that, the more people started relating and supporting.
What song are you most proud of writing?
“SMA.” The way I was able to write down every single little detail of my breakup and makeup with my girlfriend, it was crazy. When she heard it she cried, so many times. Even after it was out, sometimes it would make her cry. It felt like subtitles to the memories that we had.
How has your songwriting changed since those early days? Do the lines you write ever jump out at you? On Lost Files, the track “Abortion” has the line ‘you lucky she didn’t abort you’ that’s had people talking.
That definitely happens. That’s when I know I’m on the right track, I should not give up. Sometimes you might doubt yourself a thousand times but when that happens, you feel good. It happens a lot. Sometimes I do that on purpose, like, I focus on the last line of the hook just so that it brings your attention back and it really fucks you up. Sometimes I try and say the most bizarre shit but make it make sense somehow, so that you relate to it, but the way I say it makes you go, ‘what the hell?’
You’re still writing songs, so will they be added to the new album then?
I might. It depends how hard [a song] knocks. If I’m satisfied, it’s definitely going to make it. If not, no. Right now I’m not even trying to think of a number ’cause I know it’s going to change. I might make it 23 ’cause I’m 23 years old.
You jumped on an Instagram Live with Emtee a some weeks ago.
It’s really dope. The energy right now is at a place where we all need it to be. It hasn’t been like this for a couple years now, since 2014/2015. The other genres kinda overshadowed hip-hop for a second in SA. That IG battle, the whole idea brought people’s attention back to hip-hop and made them appreciate the artists and the roles that they played in the game. There’s a whole lot of memories that go with those songs and the times they came out, specially for me and Emtee because our come-up was simultaneous.
We came up the same time, we dropped singles around the same time. Even with the remixes. I had Cassper [Nyovest] and Davido, a South African and a Nigerian artist. He had AKA and Wizkid, also a South African and a Nigerian. And both artists started beefing with each other at the same time. It was a crazy moment. That spark just came back, and it was really fucking dope. Beef is beef, it’s part of hip-hop, but I choose not to involve myself in it. I’ll defend myself and my honor. A lot of people try to discredit you, especially fucking DJs and shit, so I defend myself but I’m not the one to go rap about you and stuff like that.
You have a lot going for you now anyway.
We’re en route. Things are looking crazy—the things we have planned. I finally have a backing strong enough now to make these crazy, creative ideas in my mind come to life. I think I’m going to do something nuts. I don’t want to ruin it, so I won’t say anything more.

China-Africa: ‘Enough is enough’, as #BlackChina anger spreads
By: illovuonline news team
10-05-2020

Across Africa and the black diaspora rage steadily increases over reports of discrimination and maltreatment in Guangzhou.
It’s been several weeks since the first reports of widespread mistreatment of and discrimination against African residents in Guangzhou first emerged, and since then anger and frustration among broad swathes of African civil society and the larger global black diaspora has only intensified.
One of Nigeria’s largest newspapers, The Guardian, has become the latest mainstream media outlet on the continent to issue a blistering editorial on Tuesday, denouncing the poor treatment that Nigerians and other Africans reportedly have had to endure in Guangzhou amid the government’s enforcement of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Guardian’s editorial board reflected on the countless social media videos that portray aggressive Chinese behavior towards Africans in Guangzhou and noted that the alleged perpetrators were never held accountable. “Curiously, none of these maltreatments have been reported for investigations and prosecution by the Chinese authorities,” said the editorial.
The newspaper also dismissed outright the Chinese explanation for what happened in Guangzhou and any assertions that there is no racism or discrimination in China.
The editorial concluded by saying “respect begets respect” — a familiar theme that has been repeated in other prominent editorials and in much of the social media messaging that is driving this narrative within African civil society.
The Premium Times editorial, though, is just the latest and among the high-profile condemnations of the situation in Guangzhou. The issue has been taken up by the Nigerian House of Representatives, hashtags like #BlackChina are now trending on social media and international human rights groups including Human Rights Watch have also started speaking out.
Human Rights Watch Calls for China to “End Discriminatory Treatment of Africans”
ACCOUNTABILITY: “Chinese authorities claim ‘zero tolerance’ for discrimination, but what they are doing to Africans in Guangzhou is a textbook case of just that… Beijing should immediately investigate and hold accountable all officials and others responsible for discriminatory treatment,” said Yaqiu Wang, China researcher at Human Rights Watch.
INVESTIGATIONS: “African governments together should unequivocally call on the Chinese government to cease all discrimination against Africans in China, and carry out prompt and transparent investigations to hold to account all those responsible for discriminatory practices. African governments should also press China to enforce measures to prevent discrimination in the future,” said Carine Kaneza Nantulya, Africa advocacy director at Human Rights Watch.
TAKE AWAY: It’s important to note that both The Guardian’s editorial and the HRW article use the word “Chinese” as a blanket characterisation to represent both the Chinese government and Chinese civil society. Little, if any, distinction is made between the two and that’s potentially misleading. Over the past several weeks, both Guangdong provincial authorities and local officials in Guangzhou have made considerable efforts to introduce new anti-discrimination measures and to make amends with local African communities.
Many of the videos and accounts of mistreatment in China that are now circulating on social media show interactions with private actors (stores, restaurants, individuals) and not representatives of the state (police and other officials). At the height of the crisis in April that was not the case.
There’s certainly more the Chinese authorities can do to crack down on racist and discriminatory rhetoric online and to follow up on documented instances of maltreatment. But it’s also important to differentiate between public policy and individual behaviour.

Social relief programme set to deliver food hampers, R600 vouchers to Durban’s needy families
By: illovuonline news team

Durban – eThekwini Municipality is expected to roll out its social relief programme tomorrow to thousands of residents who have been left destitute and without food since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown.
The programme will see multitudes of deserving residents receiving food hampers and vouchers worth R600, one of the biggest in the country.
Mayoral spokesperson, Mluleki Mntungwa, said the roll out follows mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda’s launch of the city’s social relief plan in KwaNyuswa recently, to aggressively respond to Covid-19 socio-economic challenges.
“Working with councillors, the city has identified 1000 indigent households from each ward. A list with ID numbers has been compiled where each beneficiary is going to sign next to their ID details to prevent fraudulent activities. An amount of 66 million has been set aside for this colossal programme,” he said.
Mntungwa went on to slam reports that the city had deliberately delayed the programme.
“In as much as it is receptive of constructive criticism from the civil society and the opposition, it will never allow any frivolous attempts to distract it from ensuring that only the poor benefits from this programme. The city had to follow supply chain processes to the latter to ensure that it gets value for tax-payers money,” he said.
He said the municipality has warned those involved in the programme, to resist any temptation to do favours for their relatives and friends but rather treat all residents equally.
“Any officials and councillors that would be found to have acted unethically, they would be dealt with in accordance with the code of conduct applicable,” he said.
Last month, councillors in parts of the KwaZulu-Natal were accused of stealing food parcels meant for the poor. According to community activist, Mary de Haas, there are reports elected councillors were handing out food parcels meant for the poor to their families, friends and allies.
She said complaints had been received in the KZN Midlands, Pietermaritzburg, Durban, Dannhauser and Nquthu.

Lockdown: Western Cape ANC calls on province to consider going back to Level 5
By: illovuonline news team
10-05-2020

As the Western Cape ramps up its screenings and testing for Covid-19 as confirmed cases rise, the ANC in the province is calling for the return to Level 5 lockdown to be considered.
On Friday, it said the situation in the province was getting worse, with hot spots in the area needing special attention.
“This province faces its biggest health challenge ever and needs to go back to the Level 5 quarantine urgently to slow down infections,” MPL Danville Smith said in a statement.
The ANC added it wanted special lockdown measures implemented to lower the increasing deaths and cases.
There were 535 more confirmed cases in the province by Friday, raising the number to 4 584, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde announced in his daily updates.
Deaths in the province were standing at 87 – up from 76 on Thursday – and include a Tygerberg Hospital nurse.
“The DA-led Western Cape government must face the fact that half of the people infected in South Africa come from this province. Hot spots are also shooting up outside of the Cape Town metro like also in the Witzenberg, Winelands and Stellenbosch municipal areas.
“Large groups of people are exposed to infection at shopping centres, farms and factories. And the numbers are set to rise even higher. The ANC calls for a strong presence of national law officials like the SAPS and SANDF in hot spots.”
The party urged Winde to apply for the special status of being sent back to Level 5 through Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
“The ANC says the return to Level 5 is an urgent matter that must be seriously considered. All lives matter.”
Speaking at a gathering to receive a donation of personal protection equipment (PPE) from Ithuba Holdings on Thursday, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said the Western Cape was sitting just below 50% of total confirmed cases in the country.
He added it was experiencing cluster outbreaks and needed mechanisms to deal with the outbreak more strongly in order to reduce the rate of spread.
Mkhize and President Cyril Ramaphosa would visit the province next week.
The province has previously argued that its rapid, active testing approach to put out “bushfires” had naturally seen more cases declared in it.

President John Magufuli has been widely criticised for his lacklustre response to the coronavirus pandemic, even as case numbers in Tanzania increase. Mwanahamisi Singano says that Tanzanians have a right to expect more
Your Excellency, President John Magufuli.
Let me first begin by stating that no one blames you or your leadership for bringing the coronavirus to Tanzania. It is not your fault. This illness knows no borders. But your administration will be measured and judged on the basis of how you have responded to it.
Mr President, allow me to use my constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression to speak peacefully.
Mr President, the day I lost my cousin — to an illness the government said later was related to Covid-19 — and decided to speak publicly, people said to me: “Mishy, congratulations for your bravery.” Have we come to the point that acknowledging bereavement requires courage? We all know that bereavement is very painful and death is inexplicable, but losing your relatives in circumstances in which their death could have been avoided hurts even more.
Mr President, when it gets to the point of being deprived of your right to grieve, cry and be comforted, the pain is unbearable. That is why I am writing this letter to you. I am writing it with the great pain of having lost my loved one.
Mr President, we are Tanzanians. We don’t wait for an invitation to a funeral. When you hear about a bereavement, you join the bereaved and attend the funeral. In our culture death is not a secret — bereavement is not a shame — and to say you have lost someone has never been a sin.
Mr President, funerals should be a place of comfort and community. But now, to say that you are bereaved is seen as a sin, a grave mistake or a courageous act. We have seen in unverified video reports people being buried at night, like witches. Worse, they seem to be buried without following and respecting traditional and religious burial etiquettes.
Mr President, our elders used to say: “He who covers up illness, gets discovered by death.” And indeed, the deaths are exposing us. Tell us the truth, even if it’s bitter to swallow. The truth will set us free and will bring us together to find a solution to the coronavirus and its overt economic and social harm. It is an undisputed fact that we cannot solve the problem by either denying or diminishing it. Sadly, the heaviness of the coronavirus is too big — not just for us, but everywhere.
Mr President, this is a time to unite the nation. I am a Tanzanian and I know one of Tanzania’s greatest qualities is our unity, especially when we face a common enemy. Right now, our enemy is the coronavirus, and not the victims of the virus. Tanzanians are thirsty and eager to be led into a real fight to destroy the coronavirus, because every Tanzanian life is precious.
Mr President, fear is not relieved by threats, torture or shackles; rather, it is fought by sincere and intentional government actions in the fight against this scourge. Fear is overcome through comfort and fraternal love. Tanzanians deserve to sleep confidently, knowing our leaders and government are fighting hard to ensure our safety. Then we can all join in to fight this common enemy, shoulder to shoulder, and from dawn till dusk.
Mr President, we don’t need at this time to be afraid of the government and those in power. We don’t need to fight authorities and state machinery. We want to channel our energy to fight the coronavirus, as part of our shared humanity, fraternity bond and our collective responsibility.
Mr President, your fellow head of state, President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, said recently: “We know how to bring the economy back to life. What we do not know is how to bring people back to life”, which is true. The world has no shortage of economists to advise on economic recovery, but there is no scientific or logical evidence that we can raise the dead. Those families whose loved ones are dying will not come to find another father, mother or any other loved one to fill the gap. They will be gone, forever.
Mr President, I know that anyone who knows me, who is reading this message, will fear for my safety. But I know that, that day — October 25 2015 — when I queued to vote, I voted for my right to have freedom of expression, security and protection in accordance with the Constitution. I voted for my patriotism. Today, I am writing this letter while still believing that patriotism is when you stand for the public interest, even when it might mean fighting with my sweat and blood against any enemy that will attack my country.
Mr President, let me end by saying that a captain’s courage is tested in a storm. We are facing a terrible storm. Right now, Tanzanians are dealing with so many challenges — economic, social, and health challenges, both physical and mental. They deserve to be led with the highest levels of freedom, justice, fraternity and peace. Humanity first. Wealth will come later.
