After disappearing from our TV screens, people would really love to hear about the actor’s life after the popular show and how he is doing!

Multi-talented TV actor and radio host Khaya Dladla, who was thrust into the spotlight after he bagged the flamboyant and quick-witted character of GC on, SABC1‘s fan-favorite popular sudser Uzalo, has moved on with his life. This follows after his character was written off the story-line, on the show.

The talented actor who dabbles as an entrepreneur and a radio host, recently got up close and personal with ZAlebs about his illustrious career in the limelight and his thriving radio career, after playing the renowned character on Uzalo.

Khaya who started his career in the entertainment business 23 years ago said his plan was not to be on TV. He elaborated that he saw himself dominating the airwaves and being famous for his beautiful voice on the radio.

But he was thrust into TV when said Duma Ndlovu, the producer of Uzalo said to him he must audition on Uzalo and he landed his big break on the show. The entertainment industry is known for the glitz and glam and Khaya says it can either make you or break you.

Khaya Dladla

Speaking on whether the industry has always been what he expected he said:

“It is exactly what I thought it would be, definitely not easy, people don’t know, it has never been an easy ride, it has been a hectic ride. Some of the projects you work on are more profitable, some carry more weight some are more meaningful and some are more of a lesson”

“From working with different producers and directors you learn that okay I like this style of working so when I to get to this point I want to work like this person and you move to another place you realize that these ones they work like this and I don’t like that, then I won’t keep it, so every day you learn and also selective hearing is very important because also there are things you hear about yourself that you choose to stay away from, the industry is polluted so you must check carefully.”

Khaya Dlala had a successful run on Uzalo, however, his character was written off on the show. The flamboyant actor won the hearts of many South Africans and became a household name. Speaking about his departure on the show he said it really hit him hard.

“The thing is with me leaving the show, I didn’t process it because I wasn’t told I was leaving the show, so there was no time for me to digest that in the next three months I won’t be on this show because no one said anything to me about not coming back. Other actors were told that they won’t be coming back but I was not,” he said.

Khaya was reduced to a call actor on the show, but his future hanged in the balance as he was not told when his services will be needed. He said he has moved on with his life because he can’t hold back onto that.

“At the end of the day, there was no book or line in my life that said I would work for Uzalo and I did there was no book that said I would stay on Uzalo for 20 years. It was one of those things that wake up and you need to move on and I’m so glad because I needed that break, I think everything happens for a reason.”

Khaya said he acknowledges the fact that shows have seasons and they can’t have the same faces forever but, how a talent departs from a show must be done in the correct way.

“When I was let go on Uzalo, there was no reason to say that maybe I was troublesome, I was so professional, I wrote lines for GC, I prepped for everything and my scenes. People called and said I have been fired. If I was like I’m not tired, I’m now a call actor, meanwhile, Khaya has been fired because it cannot happen that you put someone on standby for 1 year,” he said.

Khaya said if he did not move on from the Uzalo saga, he would be stuck in one place and heavily in debt.

“If I was stupid I would have waited and end up being poor because who was going to pay for my cars and house? Lucky for me I was able to pull through a radio gig on Gagasi FM, whilst I was still on Uzalo.

Khaya said it is unfair for soapies to say they have run out of the story-line because you create a story-line.

“You can’t say you ran out of a story-line that is nonsense, then you do not have the right writers, you can create stories, I created stories for GC and other characters, I gave them stories and other actors would come to portray their characters but I added story-lines to their characters”

He said what was weird was that they removed him after the SAFTA nomination and he felt sidelined. He said fans cannot forget about his character.

“It is so sad because people tag me on stuff that I have done they always tag me on GCs videos and I’m like can someone take this video down please, something that I did 3 years ago still resurfaces as current but I guess people love what they saw.”

Khaya said producers of Uzalo to date they haven’t called him for work. He said maybe the channel did not want him instead of the producers “What people see on TV is literally 2 percent of what happens behind the scenes, while there is drama on set there are divas and actors who are not treated the same”

“I noticed that there was something dodgy going on between our talks with the production of Uzalo, after that, I told Gagasi FM that, I’m ready to move to another slot because I already had a show there.”

Khaya said he is open to working with Uzalo again should he receive a call from them.

“If I get a call to go to work, I will evaluate to see if the work is there, how long am I going do it, and accept it, whether it is on Uzalo, Generations or The Queen Mzansi, if its work it works, I don’t work for people I work for myself.”

Khaya said he has found a home, on the Durban based radio station.”I get respected so much, Gagasi treats me like gold, I respect what I do, I’m always on time and I give myself to everything I do” he said.

Speaking about fame after the show and the fame of other actors who were on the show who disappeared on the limelight, Khaya said: ” Some of the actors on the show are probably broke but those who disappeared have more money.”

He said fame does not pay for your bills, but working hard and exploring different avenues to create revenue pays for your bills.

“Fame does not help with anything it just brings you stress and Twitter drags you and there are people who get into the entertainment business for fame but they don’t understand how the business operates,”

Khaya has his eyes set on having his own breakfast show on radio, but he is working hard to perfect his skills.

Khaya who owns Khaya Entertainment Guru his talent and management company has been busy with his casting agency on the side and has done different campaigns to sustain his life.

Khaya also has his own sneaker line. “I have all these little pockets to sustain me now, a lot of people are at home as production companies are closed and they are not making any money but some of us are”

He said just like your Zandi Nhlapho who was on TV, now they are producers and business owners because they knew they cannot be on TV forever new talent comes and go, so producers are moving on and dealing with numbers.

Khaya said he will be coming back to our small screens soon.

“It is happening very soon, I’m in talks with different production companies, I’m trying to run away from playing the same character, I always want to try different things and influence my creativity. I’m currently in talks with Mbongeni Ngema for another production but I cannot disclose much,” he said.

Khaya said to date he still believes he is not a great actor, but every day is a work in progress. “I still believe I’m, not a great actor if I were to play another character and it slaps me I would judge myself from that character”

Khaya who hosted Men Council on BET Africa said the first episode gave me a headache but he grew and prepped for it and became a better presenter.

Asked on when season 2 of the show is coming he said, he does not know where he is currently standing with the producer of the show Pepsi Spokane because he is one of the producers of Uzalo.

Khaya said he has chosen to venture into talent management because he wanted to manage his own brand, he said he was tired of people who wanted to make big bucks out of him and he would end up with the small amount of money.

Khaya manages numerous actors who want to land roles on TV. He said he planned his 2020, 2 years ago, and was hoping to slay this year, but the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted some of his plans.

Khaya said he is currently working with the Department of Health, on a pop-up clinic for the LGBTQI community. The clinic is a space for them to feel comfortable when they seek medical attention, as some often face discrimination in public clinics.

Khaya who is head over heels in love with his boyfriend Mercutio Buthelezi said he gets annoyed when people ask if he is going to get married soon. He said this happened a lot after Somizi’s wedding. Khaya said why do we always need to have a next, everyone has their own pace.

He said he is content with his decision of coming out to the public about his relationship and revealed the reason on why he decided to go public with it, “I started not to enjoy my DMs, they started to be stuff that I needed to report and it was proper harassment for me, and the level of disrespect from people who would literally pull me on the side to kiss me I decided I’ve had enough with it”.

Ramaphosa threatened with possible litigation over constitutionality of council in charge of response to Covid-19

Two of the country’s high-profile advocates have written a legal letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa to request clarity on the powers wielded by the National Command Council (NCC) in charge of the response to the novel coronavirus.

In a nine-page letter through RHK Attorneys, advocates Nazeer Cassim and Erin Dianne Richards say they are concerned about the possible risks of constitutional and democratic malfunctioning.

This, they say, arises from what appears to be the questionable establishment, structure and functions of the NCC, as well as the noticeable lack of transparency from the government about the body.

“The problem is that the NCC only consists of 19 ministers. That is not the entire national executive. Where are the remaining ministers? On its current composition, the NCC appears to us to constitute a centralisation of power that is impermissible under the Disaster Management Act,” the letter reads.

The two have threatened to take the matter to their ethical bodies for possible litigation, if the president fails to respond.

The advocates say that, from the information available to them, the NCC appears to be displacing constitutional and statutory functionaries under the Disaster Management Act (DMA). This is compromising parliamentary oversight, opening the door to potential unchecked abuses or excesses of State power.

The two advocates question the information disseminated by the media, pointing out that statements made by ministers are, at times, contradictory.

This concern was shared by the DA earlier this month, when it called for National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise to set up an oversight committee over the executive during the lockdown. The request was rejected by Modise.

“Perhaps most unsettling is the impact that an unlawful exercise of executive power by the NCC would have on parliamentary oversight: shifting executive power from yourself and 28 ministers to yourself and 19 ministers throws the parliamentary oversight mechanisms into complete chaos because it interrupts the ordinary functioning of portfolios and their committees.

“It accordingly appears that the NCC is exercising at least two forms of power: the first of these being statutory regulation-making powers and the second of these being executive powers of coordination and management of the disaster. We see no lawful basis for the NCC to interfere in the making of regulations, nor do we see any lawful basis for the body to exercise any other statutory regulation-making powers under the DMA,” the letter reads.

They argue that only the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has the powers to issue regulations after consultation with the relevant cabinet member, adding that no other body has any authority to determine regulations, interfere in the process of the determination of regulations, or revise regulations.

“If there is substance to the concern about regulatory interference, it is our opinion that this would directly impugn the lawfulness of the regulations to which the entire nation is currently being subjected. It is, therefore, of the utmost importance that clarification be provided.”

Speaking to illovuonline news, Cassim said the letter was a friendly clarity-seeking request to the president. He added that, while he understood the burden of Ramaphosa’s office, it does not detract from the requirement that all exercises of power must be lawful.

“You should avoid a situation where you have absolute power and absolute control. The machinery must be guided by the Constitution. You can’t discard the judiciary and Parliament. You can’t have an executive appointing whomever, as they are doing now, in the country. The conduct of the government must never be unchecked,” he said.

A professor, Kamal Jain, has achieved some success after he said he came up with a software that can facilitate quick testing of coronavirus patients –

Kamal said all the testing can be concluded within five seconds through an X-ray scan device – The academic has therefore filed for the patent of his creation and submitted it for clinical review.

Kamal Jain, an Indian professor, has claimed that he has created a software that can quickly detect a case of coronavirus within five seconds through the use of an X-ray scan.

After using 40 days to come up with the software program, the academic has filed for a patent and has gone to meet the Indian Council of Medical Research for a thorough review, Hindustan Times reports.

A professor of civil engineering, Kamal said that the program will help reduce the cost of testing and also protect health workers from risk of infection.

“I first developed an artificial intelligence-based database after analysing over 60 000 X-ray scans, including those of Covid-19, pneumonia and tuberculosis patients to differentiate between the kind of chest congestion suffered in the three diseases.

I also analysed the chest x-ray database of the United States’ NIH Clinical Center,” Kamal said. A picture showing health workers in India carrying out a test. Plan B? Newly discovered planet is the closest yet to a second Earth

By: illovuonline news team

If you’re fed up with the Earth’s people, pandemic and politics, you might be pleased to know there’s a newly discovered, untouched world out there that might be perfect for you — as long as you don’t mind red light or figuring out your own way to get there.

Astronomers say they’ve found a planet that more closely resembles our Earth than any other distant world they’ve seen to date, in a thrilling new discovery made possible by a dead space telescope.

The planet, dubbed Kepler-1649c, is a rocky world that’s six per cent larger than Earth, according to findings published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters earlier this month. Kepler-1649c orbits a distant red dwarf star, and is just far enough away from its red sun to exist in the so-called “habitable zone” where liquid water — and life — could potentially form.

It basically sounds like Krypton, Superman‘s fictional home world.

This artist’s illustration shows what Kepler-1649c might look like from its surface.

Of course, there’s no evidence that there are aliens on Kepler-1649c. But that also doesn’t mean there aren’t.

The planet was named Kepler-1649c (and not Krypton) after the now-defunct Kepler/K2 space telescope used to find its star. The telescope collected massive reams of data about potential Earth-like planets during its four-year mission, and helped astronomers discover nearly 200,000 new stars before it was shut down.

A computer algorithm initially discarded evidence of Kepler-1649c as a false positive, but an international team of researchers gave the data a second look and spotted the rocky world upon further inspection.

“In terms of size and likely temperature, this is the most similar planet to Earth that has ever been found with Kepler,” co-author Jeff Coughlin told Forbes. Coughlin works at the SETI Institute, an organization dedicated to looking for life on other worlds.

“It’s incredible to me that we just found it now, seven years after data collection stopped on the original Kepler field,” he said.

NASA described Kepler-1649c as an Earth-sized, habitable planet hiding in plain sight.

“Out of all of the exoplanets found by Kepler, this distant world — located 300 light-years from Earth — is most similar to Earth in size and estimated temperature,” the space agency said on its website.

The tricky thing about this exoplanet (the term for a planet outside our solar system) is its star, which is classified as an M-dwarf.

“Although M-dwarfs may be less hospitable than higher-mass stars like the Sun, their sheer numbers make it plausible that planets around M-dwarfs may be the most common habitable environments in the universe,” the study authors write.

In other words, astronomers still aren’t sure if M-dwarfs are better or worse than our own sun for potentially supporting life on an orbiting planet.

Kepler ultimately discovered 4,144 planets before it was shut down, including in the so-called “Goldilocks” zone where conditions might be just right to support life. Another space telescope, called TESS, took over its planet-hunting mission in 2018.

The next step to figuring out if there actually is life on Kepler-1649c is to examine its atmosphere from afar, according to Pamela Rowden, another co-author on the study.

“At some point we’re going to get to the point where we can actually look at these rocky planets and say, yeah, I can see water,” she said on a conference call announcing the discovery.

“Maybe [in] 20, 30 years’ time, that’s what we’ll be talking about.”

Maybe. If they don’t find us first.

Isibaya should apologise for showing kids inappropriate scene

On 24 April episode of Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya left many wishing they could “un-hear and un-see” what happened. Besides the fact that the whole episode was made up of three actors only, the Dam-Dam & Vava scene left the drama’s fans traumatized.

The teaser of the episode on Isibaya’s official Twitter page which read, “Dam Dam and Vava Voom’s love is not on lockdown,” got viewers glued to their screens but the scene left them embarrassed and they want an apology.

Following the explicit s__x scene that saw Isibaya’s love birds, Vava and Dam Dam sharing an intimate moment, some parents who were watching the episode with their children apparently left the room.

Here’s what some viewers had to say on Twitter:

@Ekaneng_Gift “My dad was Like “Nna ksayo robala” Im here paying attention to my phone nako eo remote is right next to me. I didn’t know what to do,Mom doesn’t even say a thing #Isibaya”

@Sello_Chuene “Bo Dam Dam mara, I had to change the channel as I am watching with the kids. I didn’t know where to look. #Isibaya”

@TheeMillenium “That scene from the sounds and to the bedroom wasn’t supposed to last for so long honestly. Now we’re not watching cause my mom changed the channel. ”

Read South Africa’s full level 4 lockdown restrictions here

Government has published a document with the full details of South Africa’s lockdown levels, as the country gets ready to enter level 4 from 1 May 2020.

As announced by president Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday evening (23 April), the country is moving towards a graded alert level system, to determine how strict the country’s lockdown restrictions will be as it continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic, while re-igniting the economy.

To aid in this measured approach, the country will adopt a risk-adjusted strategy made up of five levels, that will determine the risk and infection rate nationally, and in each province, district and metropolitan area.

The approach has been guided by scientists and experts, who have warned that a sudden end to the lockdown will lead to a massive increase in the number of infections, the president said.

The levels, which denote the level of action needed to stop the spread of the virus, are as follows:

Level 5 – drastic measures are required;

Level 4 – some activity can be allowed, subject to extreme requirements;

Level 3 – the easing on some restrictions on work and social activities;

Level 2 – further easing of restrictions, but the maintenance of social distancing;

Level 1 – most normal activity can resume, with caution and health guidelines followed at all times.

In a broad overview of level 4 of the lockdown, government has expanded the number of industries that can open, while maintaining strict prohibitions on movements and gatherings.

In summary, these are some of the key restrictions for level 4:

A curfew will be in effect from 20h00 to 05h00 each day;

Wearing of cloth masks will be mandatory when moving out of residence;

Essential goods will continue to be sold, joined by hardware supplies, winter clothing and heating, and other industry-related items;

Tobacco products will be back on sale;

Certain industries will only be able to open at half capacity;

E-hailing services are able to operate, while public transport is also limited;

No concerts, cinemas or public gatherings will be allowed;

No alcohol will be sold;

Exercise will be limited, with public gyms remaining closed;

Food delivery will be available, subject to the curfew.

As the country moves to lower levels, many of these restrictions ease up, with more industries able to operate at full capacity, while off-site consumption of alcohol will again be allowed.

At level 2 all levels of retail will be able to open, and domestic workers will be allowed to once again work at private households – and at level 1, all limits on movement are lifted – but hygiene practices and social distancing should still be observed.

According to Trade and Industry minister, Ibrahim Patel, the document is in draft format, and is a work in progress, and will be subject to change depending on commentary and engagement with various sector and stakeholders.

Black hole bends escaping light ‘like a boomerang’

By: illovuonline news team
26-04-2020

Even light can’t resist the pull of these irresistible cosmic objects.

Light escaping from a black hole may “boomerang” its way to freedom, new X-ray images reveal.

Researchers found this odd behavior while reviewing archival X-ray observations of a black hole that’s approximately 10 times as massive as our sun. Located about 17,000 light-years from Earth, the black hole siphons material from a partner star; together, the black hole and star are known as XTE J1550-564.

Things can get pretty weird around a black hole. These exceptionally dense cosmic objects exert such a powerful gravitational pull that even light can’t resist their attraction. And scientists recently found that light behaves even more strangely around a black hole than once thought. Light in a black hole’s accretion disk — a spiraling, flattened cloud of dust and gas that circles the edges of a black hole — can sometimes escape into space. But the departing light from the XTE J1550-564 black hole didn’t follow the predictable path. Instead of escaping directly from the disk, the light was instead pulled back toward the black hole and then reflected off the disk and away from the black hole “like a boomerang,” researchers reported in a new study.

They modeled the black hole’s accretion disk and its corona — a lower-density gas zone very close to the black hole — using data captured by the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer, a now-defunct NASA satellite mission that investigated black holes, neutron stars and other X-ray emitting objects between 1995 and 2012.

“Typically, what we study is light that comes from that gas” — the corona — “and it bounces off of this disk that’s spiraling toward the black hole,” said lead study author Riley Connors, a postdoctoral researcher in physics at the California Institute of Technology’s Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pasadena, California.

Normally, the team studies light “coming from that corona and hitting the disk, bouncing off, and then arriving at our telescopes. That’s something we’ve been studying for a long time,” Connors told Live Science.

This time, however, some of the light bouncing off the black hole’s disk appeared to originate in the disk itself rather than in the corona; it was then dragged back toward the black hole before bouncing away.

“The thing that we found, that was predicted in the 1970s, is that you could see light that comes from the disk bent all the way back onto itself,” Connors said.

Light from different regions around the black hole has distinctive X-ray signatures that tell scientists where the light came from. When the study authors looked at the data for XTE J1550-564, they saw light that was reflected from the black hole but had emission “fingerprints” that didn’t quite match those in light that came from the corona, Connors said. The researchers then turned to computer models to explain the anomaly.

This illustration shows how some of the light coming from a disk around a black hole is bent back onto the disk itself due to the gravity of the black hole; the light is then reflected back off the disk. (Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/R. Hurt (IPAC)/R. Connors (Caltech))

Putting a new spin on black holes

This discovery could help scientists confirm other elusive aspects of black holes, such as how fast they spin. Researchers already understand how an accretion disk around a black hole behaves. By adding this boomeranging light to their computer models, astrophysicists can then calculate a black hole’s rotation speed based on how much of the light is bending and bouncing back, Connors explained.

“It’s perhaps a more reliable way for us to measure how fast the black holes are spinning,” he said. ‘”

Though this phenomenon has been documented to date only in the XTE J1550-564 system, this is likely not the only black hole where light performs these unusual gymnastic feats, Connors said.

“We’re starting to look at data from other black holes; we have data from multiple X-ray satellites for dozens of these systems in our own galaxy,” he said. “We think that we should see this in many other sources.”

The easing of SA’s lockdown means more than 40% of the workforce will be back at work, but if Covid-19 cases go up the lockdown will intensify again

From midnight next Friday, all South Africans have to wear a face mask in public as the country moves from level five of the national lockdown to level four.

A curfew, starting at 8pm and ending at 5am, will also be in place from May 1. People will now be able to exercise outside of curfew hours (from 5am to 8pm). Details of what this means will be announced next week — but gyms will not be open.

Public transport will operate during these curfew times, but under strict health protocols and a 70% maximum capacity.

These announcements were made by Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma at a media briefing on Saturday.

Patel said that more than 40% of South Africa’s workforce will be back at work from May 1.

Under level four, more sectors of the economy will be permitted to operate. These include retail, manufacturing, mining, business services such as call centres, hunting, energy, forestry and fishing. Agriculture was permitted under level five but auctions will now be allowed.

Restaurants will open — but they are only allowed to deliver food.

Manufacturing, which was partially open, will now see more than 20% of the sector back at work. This will include the manufacturing of children’s clothing, especially winter items, blankets and other bedding, cement, hardware (mostly for vehicle components) and stationery production.

Retail stores selling children’s clothing, stationery, educational items, cigarettes and computers and cell phones will also open.

Patel said each sector must agree to a Covid-19mitigation plan that is to be approved by the health ministry and the minister relevant to the sector.

Businesses are also required to put Covid-19 mitigation and assessment plans in place. These include providing employees with items such as hand sanitisers and face masks. Businesses will have to screen employees for symptoms of Covid-19, provide safe transport, reconfigure shifts and put canteen controls in place.

During level five, only those people working in businesses deemed to be essential were permitted to leave their homes to go to work. Patel said an additional 1.5-million people can return to work next week. “[This] allows us to restart or increase as many economic activities as possible.”

The data collected by large companies conducting mass Covid-19 screening and testing may be used by the government to get more reliable and comprehensive information on the number of Covid-19 infections in any particular area, he said.

If the rate of Covid-19 infection decreases, more economic activities will be opened.

Patel said the phased reopening of the economy allows firms to ready themselves for a period where operating under new public health and Covid-19 containment measures is the new normal. The coronavirus outbreak is expected to be active for at least the next six to eight months.

“We can’t simply get back to work as if the virus is not spreading and workplaces themselves have to change,” he said.

Several factors were used by the government to determine which sectors of the economy would be permitted to resume operations. These are: the risk of transmission of the virus, the effect of a complete lockdown of the sector, the sector’s contribution to the country’s broader economy and the sector’s promotion of people’s well-being.

Patel said the process to re-open the economy and allow more businesses to operate has been “difficult and complex” but that various factors had to be taken into account before restarting the economy.

“We need to strike a careful balance between getting to work as rapidly as possible and containing the spread of the virus and saving lives,” he said. “We need to work … to bring the risk level in the economy down. If we can bring the risk down below level four; if we can bring it level three, even more industries will be open,” he said.

Patel said the phased re-opening of the economy is an opportunity to support South African firms. “When we as South Africans buy local goods we bring demand back into our economy and we help the economy to slowly recover.”

Dlamini-Zuma said if the number of people with Covid-19 increases during phase four, phase five will be initiated again.
