The clinic will remain closed while it is fumigated and staff wait for screening results.

A notice on the clinic gate stated it would reopen on Monday.

Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA (Denosa) spokesperson Mandla Shabangu said that when Denosa was informed staff at the clinic had tested positive, it had asked management screen all staff.

He said testing had been done since Monday. So far, between 40 to 50 staff members had been tested. Shabangu said staff were unhappy with the delay in receiving their results.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

โ€œOnly those that tested positive received their results. Others decided that if their results were not back, and if they continued to work, they would put others and themselves at risk. Management must explore options. Under mutual agreement, management agreed to close the clinic,โ€ he said.

Staff had been sent home to self-quarantine until they received their results. Shabangu said some were given the option of isolating themselves at a lodge.

โ€œWe are of the view that the whole clinic was contaminated. We are not at liberty to declare the number of nurses that have tested positive. Only the National Institute for Communicable Diseases can do so,โ€ he said.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

The clinic treats expectant mothers, has a mental health service, and treats patients with tuberculosis and HIV/Aids, among other services.

Shabangu said the clinic had poor ventilation and was small, resulting in staff being unable to adhere to social distancing measures. The clinic was very busy and served people from a wide area.

A source, who did not want to be named, said the first test result came through on Monday. Since then, staff had been stressed.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

Health Department spokesperson Ntokozo Maphisa said decontamination of the clinic would be completed in four to five days.

โ€œWe have tested all employees for Covid-19 and await their results.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

โ€œEmployees who test negative will be allowed to return to work after a period of quarantine. Those who test positive will not return to work until they test negative,โ€ Maphisa said.

In the interim, the surrounding clinics had been instructed to admit patients attended to at C Community Health Centre.

โ€œTo mitigate the impact of this situation and ensure continued health-care service provision, we have roped in mobile clinics from KwaMashu and oThongathi to service members of the community,โ€ she said.

Ramaphosa hits back at critics: ‘We are not stuck on Level 4’

By: illovuonline news team
16-05-2020

President Cyril Ramaphosa has fired back at critics, who believe the lockdown restrictions should be immediately lifted, by saying “of course not everyone” will agree with the government.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

Ramaphosa boldly added the lockdown levels were a strategic approach to save lives in what seemed to be an answer to the DA’s open criticism of the regulations.

He was speaking to the media in Port Elizabeth during an oversight visit to inspect the state of the Eastern Cape’s health systems in the battle against Covid-19.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the country will drop to Level 3 of the nationwide lockdown by the end of May, but some parts of the country with higher infection rates of Covid-19 will remain at Level 4.

“Of course, not all of us will agree on the strategic approach we have taken, but we believe this is an appropriate strategic approach that is appropriate to save the lives of our people. The consultation processes [with the National Coronavirus Command Council] are starting as early as tomorrow,” said Ramaphosa.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

Level 3

“We are not stuck on Level 4 – I need to make that very clear. We are going to migrate to Level 3 so that we can loosen up a number of restrictions so that the economy can start operating once again. We have said from the onset that our purpose is to save lives and the same time to save livelihoods.”

Ramaphosa’s statement came on the same day the DA’s interim leader, John Steenhuisen, announced his party’s plans to file court papers to end “the national lockdown that is tearing our society and economy to pieces”.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

In the virtual announcement, the outspoken Steenhuisen said: “This afternoon, our lawyers will file papers in the high court challenging the rationality of three separate lockdown-related decisions: The night curfew, the restrictions on e-commerce and the limited three-hour window for exercise. These cannot be justified and should be immediately reversed.”

On Friday, he added, the party would file more court papers, this time challenging the constitutionality of the Disaster Management Act.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

‘Senseless’

“Because if the act does not meet constitutional muster, it means the decisions taken by the National [Coronavirus] Command Council under this act are not valid,” said Steenhuisen.

He had previously called for an end of the “ANC lockdown crisis”, describing some of the bans as “senseless”.

Ramaphosa said: “Let me immediately add, we are not the only country in the world that is having to deal with loosening up the lockdown that many countries have embarked upon around the world.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

“Many countries are now looking very closely at how they can ease the restrictions and we have decided that we are going to do it in an orderly manner because we have been advised by scientists that if you do it abruptly, you risk running a re-infection rate that could start happening. Now we are managing that.”

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

He also referred to some of the things he said during his Wednesday night address, and assured the nation the country would move to Level 3.

“โ€ฆ Because a people have to live and therefore our economy is very important. Yesterday, I announced that we are going to be having consultations with a view of moving to Level 3. I must make it clear that we are moving to Level 3. Many parts of the country will go to Level 3.

“There are certain parts of the country that are hot spots which we are talking about, to demonstrate precisely the incidents of infections. This country, yes, is bound to go to Level 3 as we will go to Level 2 and finally Level 1,” said Ramaphosa.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

The Eastern Cape accounts for 12.3% of infections nationally with 1 569 confirmed coronavirus cases, 31 deaths and 643 recoveries. Port Elizabeth is considered the hot spot of the province.

Nasty C has a part in the upcoming Netflix series ‘Blood & Water’.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

Not content with dominating the music charts, rapper Nasty C is giving the acting world a go with a cameo role on Netflix’s upcoming South African original series Blood & Water.

The series, which tells the story of a young girl who engineers a transfer to a prestigious school to investigate the 17-year-old cold case of her older sister who was abducted at birth, is set to premiere on May 20.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

It features a host of stars, including Ama Qamata, Natasha Thahane, Cindy Mahlangu, Thabang Molaba and Gail Mabalane.

Nasty C will play the role of a music producer.

In a statement sent to illovuonline news, Nasty C said he was excited at the chance to add acting to his list of talents and said the process was organic.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

โ€œMy character is KBโ€™s (Thabang Molaba’s) producer, who helps him put together really cool tracks. This is what I do every day and so it was a natural role for me.โ€

The star also recorded for the series’ soundtrack and said it was an exciting project.

โ€œItโ€™s insane! Iโ€™ve never really acted before and even though I was being myself by making music, it was a crazy experience. Iโ€™m super proud to be a part of the Blood & Water soundtrack. Thereโ€™s some dope artists included as well and the series is really made for the youth, which Iโ€™m excited about.โ€

The muso gave fans a glimpse of him on the set of the series on Instagram this week, encouraging fans to watch Blood & Water from next week.

Makhura: โ€˜We cannot move to level 3 without full compliance to level 4 regulationsโ€™

By: illovuonline news team

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

โ€œIf Gauteng is to continue with a low infection rate, only then will the province move to a full re-opening of the economy.โ€

Gauteng premier David Makhura said the province would only move to level 3 once the government was satisfied with compliance tohealth regulations.

He said it would be โ€œdangerous and chaoticโ€ for the province to swiftly move to level 3 without ensuring level 4 regulations were adhered to.

โ€œA greater level of compliance with health measures such as wearing masks and all businesses complying will get us there,โ€™โ€™ he said.

This was despite a significant drop in Covid-19 active cases from 38% to 28% and an increase in recoveries amounting to 1 470.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

Makhura said a full economic re-opening, without full health measures in place, would see the health system being overwhelmed, and feared that more lives would be lost.

Makhura indicated that Covid-19 hotspots in the province were shifting to the townships.

โ€˜โ€˜Although recorded cases are low in these areas given population density and vulnerability, the infections could grow rapidly,โ€ he said.

โ€œThe risk of transmission in townships is higher because in one house you can have intergenerational families staying together.

โ€œThis makes it hard to keep social distancing.โ€

He said these areas were vulnerable because of constraints to access to health care, water and sanitation due to high levels of poverty.

โ€œBecause of this, the province must step up its health interventions in those areas.โ€™โ€™

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

Parts of Soweto, Orange Farm, KwaThema, Thembisa, Ivory Park and Soshanguve were amongst the emerging hotspots.

Makhura said the government would now target these areas and re-direct the health interventions to them.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

โ€œWe will not wait until there are a thousand cases. Only one case in a densely populated area can be deadly.โ€

He said up to 1 600 additional beds will be distributed to health facilities near these areas.

The government would also ramp up health measures at Chris Hani Baragwanath, Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital and Tshwane district hospitals.

The health department also secured over a million personal protective wear for frontline workers and taxi ranks amongst other areas.

Regarding food parcels, he said the province had distributed food to almost half a million people.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

โ€œWe have not reached all the people who asked for help, but the number is too high and we are trying to reach all of them. โ€˜โ€™

Makhura said over 3.4 million people have been screened and 127 030 people tested thus far.

Thembi Mthombeni was allegedly kidnapped from her home on May 6.

It has been more than a week since a 65-year-old woman was kidnapped from her home in the Lynnville township in Witbank, Mpumalanga, and has not been seen since.

Police spokesperson Capt Eddie Hall said Thembi Mthombeni was taken by two men on May 6.

โ€œOne male is known to the family,โ€ he said. The known suspect, however, has not yet been located by police.

Hall said the assailants left the house with Mthombeni and placed her in a white double-cab bakkie with no canopy. Its registration is unknown.

โ€œShe has not been seen or heard from since,โ€ said Hall.

Mthombeni’s kidnapping was witnessed by her elderly mother who was allegedly assaulted by one of the kidnappers before they left.

The motive for the abduction is still under investigation.

โ€œ[Her] clothing worn at the time of disappearance was a black and white dress with a blue jacket,โ€ Hall said.

Police have requested the public to come forward with information that can help with the investigation.

โ€œAnyone with information regarding this case can contact the investigating officer Sgt Manzini on 071 203 0918 or 013 659 8400 or Maureen Scheepers from the SA Community Crime Watch Missing Persons Unit on 082 565 6770,โ€ said Hall.

Lockdown will be reassessed at district level every 2 weeks, says Zweli Mkhize

Health minister Zweli Mkhize

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

Covid-19 lockdown levels will be implemented at district level and will be reviewed every two weeks, health minister Zweli Mkhize said on Thursday.

Mkhize said districts would be assessed according to the average number of active cases they had over a week.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

โ€œDepending on the average active cases per 100,000 people, districts will be individually assigned levels of lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus,โ€ he said.

โ€œThe case numbers will be monitored and the National Command Council will review the level of lockdown per district every two weeks.โ€

Oversight structures in each district, which Mkhize described as โ€œintersectoral and interdepartmentalโ€, would oversee the regulations that related to each level of lockdown.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

โ€œCommunity organisations โ€” specifically local government, civil society, religious organisations and community policing forums โ€” will be empowered to monitor compliance and enforce regulation,โ€ he said.

โ€œThis should mobilise communities together, rather than create hostility against members of the police and the army.โ€

Mkhize said more needed to be done to bolster the health-care system, and districts should each have โ€œa dedicated rapid response team to intervene should there be cluster outbreaks while screening, testing and case management is conductedโ€.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

South Africa could move to level 3 lockdown by June

President Cyril Ramaphosa said areas with widespread and uncontrolled infections of the coronavirus would likely remain on level 4.

Covid-19 case numbers low, but hot spots emerging in over 12 Gauteng townships, suburbs – Makhura

By: illovuonline news team

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

The premier of Gauteng says there are clear signs of emerging Covid-19 hot spots in several townships, adding that the geography of the virus in the province has begun to change.

“Even if you have 40 cases in the township, it is a lot as transmission can happen very quickly if there are no interventions.

“Case numbers are still low, but we are concerned about vulnerable areas, like the townships and informal settlements. These numbers can multiply in the shortest space of time if there is no social distancing,” Premier David Makhura said at a virtual briefing on Thursday.

He added: “There are now clear signs of emerging hotspots in the townships: Soweto, Orange Farm, Alex, Kathorus (Kathelong, Thokoza and Vosloorus), KwaThema, Tembisa, Ivory Park, Soshanguve, Ennerdale, Vanderbijlpark, Pretoria West and Houghton/Yeoville.”

This comes as the province recorded 2 074 cases, 1 547 recoveries and 24 deaths as of Thursday.

The City of Johannesburg remains the epicentre in Gauteng with 1 124 cases and 948 recoveries.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

Areas

Of this, the E sub-district in Johannesburg โ€“ which consists of Alexandra, Wynberg, Sandton, Orange Grove and Houghton โ€“ has the highest statistics, with 287 cases.

However, the premier noted that during the early stages of the virus in Gauteng, the province identified OR Tambo International Airport, Centurion, Sandton/Fourways and Bedfordview as hotspots.

“These were the areas where we deployed tracing teams to track down all contacts and ensure that those who are positive and their contacts are in isolation and quarantine,” Makhura said.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐ŸŒhttps://illovuonline.news.blog/

The premier said the geography of Covid-19 hotspots was constantly changing, noting that infections after April showed that the profile of the spread had changed dramatically.

Although the sub-district breakdown in the province shows that the townships have fairly low numbers, the premier raised the concern that these low figures “are too much” because the virus can multiply in vulnerable areas.
