Video shows ward councillor tasting spoon then feeding the needy
By: illovuonline news team

DA ward councillor Angus McKenzie has been running a feeding scheme in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town.
In a video that is starting to trend, McKenzie was seen tasting from a spoon then using it to feed the needy – McKenzie’s blunder has been heavily criticised and his team have also been questioned for not wearing masks.
Sometimes good intentions can lead to negative consequences. Due to the nationwide lockdown, many South Africans are struggling to generate income and put food on the table.
DA ward councillor Angus McKenzie has been assisting residents of the suburb of Bonteheuwel on the notorious Cape Flats.
McKenzie has been participating in a feeding scheme to aid the needy and decided to film the moment of benevolence. Unfortunately, it has backfired spectacularly, as Gayton McKenzie (@G_XCON) took to Twitter to share the video.
Gayton slammed the politician for his team’s unhealthy conduct – team members weren’t wearing masks and seemed to be speaking over the pots of food.
The cherry on top took place when McKenzie seemingly tasted from his spoon then continued to dish food meant for one of the residents.McKenzie disputed that he ate the food being dished. McKeznie said, “While this may not be the answer the naysayers will appreciate I will continue to do over and above what is expected of me, to ensure that as many people as possible in my community have something to eat during this very difficult time.
” Zeldrè (@Zeldr19) said, “Disgusting! I won’t even eat that food if my mom, any family member or friends done that.”
Jonathan Stephenson (@RefineAfrica) responded, “I would never support this party but I think here it’s more a case of naivety than malice. Perhaps send him a message Gayton and advise.”
Xolani Zondi (@Xolanmagagula) added, “Eew! And hes bussy talking over that pot. Damn him.”

Cassper still touched by Emtee not taking his calls for collaboration
By: illovuonline news team
17-04-2020
Image: SA Hip Hop/Twitter
Cassper Nyovest recently opened up to Slikour during an Instagram Live interview –
The rapper said he still feels some type of way about Emtee ditching him when they were supposed to collab – Cassper feels it’s actions like that which stop the Mzansi hip hop industry from flourishing further.
Cassper Nyovest is still touched by Emtee ditching him at the last minute when they were supposed to collab. Cassper told Slikour, in a recent Instagram Live interview, that Emtee didn’t answer his phone on the day they were supposed to go into studio.
To make matters worse, Emtee was rude to him the next day when he asked the Roll Up hit-maker what happened.
“I tried to reach out to Emtee, the day we were supposed to go to the studio he switched off his phone. I was like I know this one, that’s not gonna happen definitely. I was on the way to the studio and his phone was off. I know what that means…so I texted him in the morning, I thought he’d explain something but he was just like (f*** you).
I was like it is what it is, keep it moving but I tried.” Cassper also admitted that his loud persona may offend some of his hip hop peers and said that some of them just plain don’t like him.
The Amademoni rapper is saddened that petty beefs like this prevent the Mzansi hip hop industry from growing. “I think that the idea that we have in our heads of South African hip hop being one thing where we’re all together like Nigerians, who stick together, is not going to happen. But we shining, people are making money, maybe that’s all that matters.”
Cass also reached out to Emtee back in 2018, asking him to squash the beef for the sake of a collaboration – hopefully they’ll be able to come together soon.

Ramaphosa tells alcohol traders he won’t submit to their demands
By: illovuonline news team
17-04-2020
Image: SA Gov/Twitter
The Gauteng Liquor Forum threatened court action should its request be denied, but the president says they should rather apply for financial relief.
South Africans who waited with bated breath on Friday for news that President Cyril Ramaphosa would respond to the Gauteng Liquor Forum’s call for shebeens and taverns to be allowed to sell alcohol amid the nationwide lockdown may find themselves disappointed.
As widely expected, the president has told them he would not allow the ban on alcohol sales to be lifted, including in shebeens. He instead directed liquor sellers to seek economic relief through programmes offered by government.
In a seven-page letter from the president’s lawyers, the forum was told the reason alcohol sales could not be considered an “essential service” was because there is a link between alcohol and traumatic injury that state hospitals could not afford to be treating during the Covid-19 crisis. They pointed out that tavern owners were among many businesses affected by the shutdown and they could not expect special treatment.
“In the absence of a lockdown, the worst effects of the spread of Covid-19 are likely to be felt in those very sectors of society that you claim to represent – those who live in the poorest conditions … the most vulnerable in society,” the letter continued.
The Gauteng Liquor Forum (GLF), a non-profit organisation of stakeholders representing about 20,000 micro and small businesses, earlier argued in their own letter that the lockdown extension to 30 April would “most likely” ruin their businesses.
They called on the president to relax alcohol restrictions and allow shebeens to operate between 9am and 6pm on weekdays, and close at 1pm on Sundays and public holidays.
“It is also notable that the entire framework for disaster management is not subject to any parliamentary scrutiny and the risk for abuse of power is manifest,” the forum said.
“The total ban on the selling of alcohol is unreasonable and it has no rational connection to the mischief which is sought to be prevented,” added the letter from the forum.
They gave Ramaphosa an ultimatum to respond or face a court challenge. It is now possible that their threatened Constitutional Court case might now go ahead, though it has doubtful prospects of success.
Ramaphosa’s lawyers have denied that the lockdown “and the regulations and/or laws in terms of which it is imposed, are unconstitutional”.
While Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said in a briefing yesterday that the ban on alcohol sales remained in place, the president was expected to give further clarity on that as per his response to the forum earlier this week.
The president, through the state attorney, had asked the GLF to wait until Friday after the National Command Council, Presidency and other relevant parties had met to discuss government’s economic assistance programme.
“This includes assistance offered to small businesses such as those of your clients and other measures to mitigate the effects of the lockdown extension. We anticipate that the results of these discussions may well have a bearing on the issues raised by your client. Therefore in order to be in a position to respond to your letter fully, we ask that you afford us until close of business day on Friday,” he said.

McDonald’s Apologizes After Location in China Banned Black Customers
By: illovuonline news team
17-04-202
Image: McDonald’s/site
McDonald’s issued a public apology after a location in Guangzhou, China posted a notice prohibiting the entry of black customers.
A Twitter account called Black Livity China shared a now-viral video on April 11 showing the notice on the restaurant’s door.
“We’ve been informed that from now on black people are not allowed to enter the restaurant,” the notice read. “For the sake of your health consciously notify the local police for medical isolation, please understand the inconvenience caused [sic].”
The racist notice sparked backlash and quickly garnered the attention of international media, prompting McDonald’s to temporarily close the Guangzhou location and deliver a formal apology.
A spokesperson for the McDonald’s Corporation told American outlet the Hillon April 14 that “as a brand, as a company and as more than 2.2 million people serving nearly 120 countries around the world, this is not representative of our inclusive values.”
“Immediately upon learning of an unauthorized communication to our guests at a restaurant in Guangzhou, we immediately removed the communication and temporarily closed the restaurant. As part of the temporary closure of this restaurant, we will take the opportunity to further educate managers and employees on our values, which includes serving all members of the communities in which we operate,” the statement added.
Guangzhou, China’s third-largest city and an international business hub, has long hosted the largest African community in the country.
However, Chinese officials’ warnings about increases in COVID-19 cases have provoked anti-foreigner sentiment, and baseless theories speculate the virus is spreading rapidly among certain groups.
Racial tensions in China between Africans and locals are on the rise, with landlords evicting African tenants while hotel owners ban African patrons.
BBC correspondent in Hong Kong Danny Vincent reported on April 14 that health workers have gone door-to-door testing Africans for COVID-19 and subjected them to arbitrary 14-day quarantine periods, regardless of whether they show any symptoms, have traveled, or have been in contact with patients.
Vincent added that some members of the African community in China feel as though the COVID-19 crisis has become an excuse to target businessmen who overstay their visas.
African diplomats respond
Chinese officials reportedly tried to downplay the incident and dismissed other reports of racism as “rumors” and “misunderstandings” spread by Western media, according to Quartz Africa.
Even before the McDonald’s incident, however, discrimination against Africans in China amid the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the unprovoked eviction of African tenants and hotel guests, had already caught the attention of African leaders.
Videos of African people sleeping in the streets, in hotel lobbies, under bridges, and outside police stations have circulated on social media, according to BBC.
The governments of Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, and Uganda, along with the African Union, have demanded explanations from the Chinese government.
Most notably, on April 10, Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat invited the Chinese ambassador to the AU, Liu Yuxi, to discuss the allegations of mistreatment.
Nigeria’s speaker for the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, summoned the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria on April 10 to discuss “the disturbing allegation of ill treatment of Nigerian citizens in China,” he shared on Twitter.
Meanwhile, African ambassadors in Beijing sent a joint diplomatic note to China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, calling on the country to condemn racial discrimination and to stop promoting a narrative that foreigners are to blame for rising COVID-19 infections.
The statement condemned “the persistent harassment and humiliation of African nationals,” adding that Chinese officials confiscated Africans’ passports and forced families with young children to sleep on the streets.
“The singling out of Africans for compulsory testing and quarantine, in our view, has no scientific or logical basis and amounts to racism towards Africans in China,” the statement continued.
Beijing attempts to make amends
In a statement on April 12, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian denied China had singled out foreigners as potential COVID-19 carriers.
“We are still facing great risks of imported cases and domestic resurgence. Particularly, as the pandemic spreads all over the world, imported cases are causing mounting pressure,” Lijian said.
“All foreigners are treated equally,” the spokesman continued. “We reject differential treatment, and we have zero tolerance for discrimination.”
Despite Lijian’s assurance, African governments have continued to put diplomatic pressure on China.
Ghanaian Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchway summoned the Chinese ambassador to Ghana on April 13 and urged Beijing to address the “inhumane treatment” of Africans in the country, according to Modern Ghana.
On April 14, Kenyan Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau denounced the evidence of discrimination against Africans.
“The reality is that this has been a very unfortunate outcome,” Kamau said at a press briefing.
“Africans, Kenyans included, have been discriminated against in the process of the provincial government’s response to try and mop up the situation that they are facing there after the crisis that they had over the last few months. Sadly, they have discriminated against and targeted various foreigners in their response,” he continued.
“The African Union has responded collectively in consultation with us,” Kamau added.
As African countries are some of China’s top trade partners, Beijing is scrambling to quell the diplomatic rift.

Nasty C lets Cassper Nyovest know he ain’t afraid to battle him
By: illovuonline news team

Nasty C and Emtee had a hits battle hosted by SA Hip Hop’s top producers Tweezy and Gemini Major – After Nasty C took the crown, Cassper Nyovest jumped in to claim his fame –
Cass made out as if no one could touch him and Nasty C swiftly shut him down – he is not scared of Cassper.
Nasty C let Cassper Nyovest know that he ain’t the be-all and end-all of Mzansi hip-hop. One thing that Nasty C hardly ever does is get involved in or start beef, he’s normally a total sweetheart.
Emtee and Nasty C went head-to-head with their hits hosted by SA Hip Hop’s top producers, Tweezy and Gemini Major, on Thursday – it was then that Nasty C told Cass off.
Nasty C obviously dominated, coming out on top with eight more bangers than Emtee. Cassper decided to jump in on the Nasty C glory debate and went in hard. Putting himself on a pedestal, Cass decided to make out like he could end Nasty C if he wanted to.
Nasty C found Cassper’s attempt to play GOAT rather cute and ended him swiftly by showing zero fear. Boi ain’t scared of nobody. It then got really real when Nasty C fearlessly challenged Cass to a battle.
If this battle does actually happen, it is going to be one of the littest yet. Yoh, Cass or Nasty C could eat their words – it certainly will be an interesting one. AT least they both remained civil and spread the love as they both always do.

Rapper Cardi B still coming to SA, Mzansi in for lit December
Rapper Cardi B is still coming to Mzansi – Her concert has been moved to 5 December after it was recently postponed due to the coronavirus –
Fans of the multi-award winning hip-hop star have taken to social media to celebrate the news.
Only a lengthy extension of the Covid-19 lockdown could stop rapper Cardi B from performing in Mzansi. The multi-award winning hip-hop star will ignite South Africa’s festive season in early December, if all goes well.
With her energy, bars, flow and a Grammy-award winning album – titled Invasion of Privacy – in her travelling bag, it’s surely gonna be lit. This will be the first time the Bronx, New York rapper, born Belcalis Almanzar, performs in South Africa.
Fans of the Bodak Yellow hitmaker were left disappointed when her Mzansi concert was recently postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Castle Lite has announced a new date for her show.
The Castle Lite Unlocks concert has been moved to 5 December. It will take place at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg. Those who have already purchased tickets will be able to exchange their tickets for the new performance date, said the promoters of the show in a statement.
Customers who wish to no longer attend the event are, however, also entitled to a refund by sending an email to info@heroticket.co.za with details on the email address used to book the ticket, cardholder’s details for ticket purchase as well as the ticket number.
The annual cultural hip-hop event continues to bring international acts to South African shores. Last year they brought out rappers Meek Mill and Post Malone for a two-day festival, along with Sway Calloway. Cardi B’s excited fans have taken to social media to express their feelings about the new date.
@KeituSeaketso commented: “After the year we’re currently having, this is gonna be the perfect way to get into December!”
@Noxie_Cole wrote: “What a way to start Dezemba, especially with 2020 being what it is.”
@dazzle_kid wrote: “We were worried about accommodation, transport and food since we’re from other provinces. But ngathi le corona low-key did us some justice. Sikhona. We are gonna be within!!”
@kim_erly said: “Is this the best way to kickstart the festive season or what?”
