Some folks we see on TV love to run but can’t hide

Jack Mabaso can’t mask his villainous ways even when he lives in Isibaya and now in a place called Gomora, dark glove or not.

Now that the madness that followed the reopening of liquor retail outlets has died down, let us now focus on another Matter of National Importance.

Jack Mabaso, a psychopath under observation at Generations Mental Facility, has resurfaced in public under a new guise and, if not apprehended, the public is not safe.

It is of paramount importance that members of the public not try to approach this person as he is extremely dangerous – not least because he has a smooth tongue.

The head of the Generations facility, Chief Inyanga Mfoondee Voondla warned the public: “People have short memories. Jack Mabaso’s residency at our institution dates back to 1994. But Jack being Jack, escaped every now and then. One time he was posing as a dude called Jefferson Sibeko, in a township called Isidingo. And the next time we saw him, he was posing as Bhekifa Ngubane in a scruffy neighbourhood called Isibaya.”

Scruffy or not, the neighbourhood of Isibaya brought the man to the public attention and observant people said, “Isn’t that Jack Mabaso?”

And they were right. The thug with sexy eyes was re-apprehended and brought back home to the institution started by Voondla, now fancily renamed as Generations: The Legacy.

Then he disappeared from the institution. He has since resurfaced in Gomora township posing as somebody else.

Don’t be fooled by the bespectacled, well-read persona by the name of Rodney “Uncle Rod” Sibeko. He is the one and only Jack Mabaso. He is still dangerous.

Yes, he underwent a special medical procedure to take care of his injured hand. So his signature glove is gone. But he is the same person.

Please note, in all the guises he has assumed in recent years, Mabaso is manipulative, ambitious, charming and aggressive.

Sometimes he calls himself Vusi Kunene. He is most elusive when he is Kunene – because no one knows his Kunene persona very well.

Speaking of elusive, another escapee from Generations, Tau Mogale, has recently been seen at the relatively new refugee centre called The Queen. He now calls himself Hector Sebata. But a leopard will never change its spots: even in his new guise, he is still the thug he’s always been.

Notably, The Queen refugee centre was co-founded by Karabo Moroka, another escapee from Generations.

Thinking she could fool the public, Karabo changed her name to Connie Smuggleson. She provided shelter for her brother Archie Moroka and gave him a new name, Kgosi.

When things started getting too hot for Archie there, he ran away. He has now reappeared as a fake lawyer at an upmarket shelter called Blood and Water.

His former protector Voondla warned the public: “Sometimes, Archie gets so confused he calls himself Sello Maake kaNcube.”

Another Generations escapee is the scheming and highly dangerous Ntsiki Lukhele. The irony is that she is now disguising herself as a person of the law, in charge of the Thabazimbi Correctional facility, in the town of Lockdown.

People afflicted with the disease of wanting to deny their names are called thespians. The most dangerous are those like Smuggleson who think they can run their own institutions.

For a long time many local thespians looked up to Generations as the best facility in SA. But it soon fell out of favour. Voondla said: “There’s nothing wrong with Generations. The reason these people have developed delusions of grandeur is simply that they are long overdue for their medication.”

Apparently, there is a special spuit, or enema, he administers to inmates so that wherever they are, no matter what they call themselves, we always remember them by the names he gave them.

Jack Mabaso, Tau Mogale, Archie Moroka, Karabo Moroka, Ntsiki Lukhele, Dr. Mandla Sithole – we know who you are. You can run, but you can’t hide.

Vusi Kunene returns to ‘Generations’

Guess who’s coming back to “Generations: The Legacy”? Yes, iconic actor Vusi Kunene is set to reprise his role as the love-to-hate villain Jack …

SASSA told to consider ‘making the R350 grant permanent’

By: illovuonline news team

The R350 grant should only be with us for six months. But it seems there’s pressure from the government’s alliance partners to extend its lifespan.

The ANC’s alliance partners have publicly stated that SASSA’s controversial R350 grant should be made a more ‘permanent fixture’ – signalling the first time that those representing the ruling party have looked at extending the scheme past its October finish date.

Solly Mapaila is the leader of the South African Communist Party. During an address with representatives from the tripartite (ANC, SACP and Cosatu), he suggested that there was a need to “broaden the discourse” when it comes to social grants, and the current Relief of Distress payment schedule must be lengthened.

HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN PAID THE R350 GRANT?

According to a statement released by SASSA this week, the R350 grant has reached the following milestones:

116 000 applicants have been paid the grant so far.

Just over six million of the applications received were valid, out of the 13 million that was received

More than 1.2 million applications are now at the ‘verification’ stage.

Around 666 000 people have been prompted to share their banking details, to complete the final stage.

Slightly under 1.6 million applicants have been disqualified, due to having ‘another source of income’.

HAVE SASSA VIOLATED HUMAN RIGHTS?

Earlier on Thursday, the DA confirmed they were reporting SASSA to the SA Human Rights Commission for their bungled handling of the R350 grant. The move comes after scores of people camped at cash-points overnight, and disgruntled crowds on Twitter complained that their relief funds had not yet arrived.

“Instead of doing the logical and humane thing to assist vulnerable South Africans, SASSA has decided to reopen offices with only 30% of its staff at work and promised to train volunteers to assist people wanting to apply for the special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant of R350.”

“The Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, has been saying she wants people to have dignity. There is no dignity in people sleeping outside and waiting forever for the special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grant.”

Opposition parties accuse government of encroaching on its power

By: illovuonline news team

Opposition parties have accused the government of abusing its power – A special Cabinet meeting held on Thursday extended the State of Disaster to 15 July and opposition parties were left out – Freedom Front Plus said they are disappointed by state’s decision to appeal Judge Norman Davis’ ruling.

On Thursday a special Cabinet meeting extended the State of Disaster to 15 July. This is the first of possibly many other one-month extensions to come. The one-month extension to 15 July is permissible under the Disaster Management Act, which limits the initial declaration of a State of Disaster to a maximum of three months.

This extension comes just after a ruling declaring most lockdown regulations invalid and unconstitutional. At the meeting, the government also announced that they would be appealing the ruling made by Judge Norman Davis in favour of the Liberty Fighters Network.

The Freedom Front Plus issued a statement condemning the decision by the Cabinet to extend the State of Disaster until 15 July. FF+ leader Pieter Groenewald added that Parliament did not have any input into the government’s unilateral decision. Groenewald said: “In terms of the National Disaster Management Act, a national disaster may be declared for a period of three months after which it can be extended on a month-to-month basis by the relevant Minister, in this case, Nokosazana [Nkosazana] Dlamini-Zuma, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).” The extension of the lockdown without consulting all stakeholders necessary has called into question the powers ministers have. In April, President Cyril Ramaphosa had promised that a collaborative effort between parties, businesses, labour and civil society would be the solution in dealing with Covid-19 problems.

However, that seems like a distant dream now as relationships between stakeholders have began to crumble. At the centre of the conflict has been the ban on tobacco. The FF+ added in its statement that not keeping opposition parties in the loop shows that the government is trying to seize “too much power”.

The party added that it is disappointed by government’s decision to appeal Judge Davis ruling. In May, the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) reported that it was approaching the Constitutional Court to to compel parliament and the executive to exercise their “constitutional powers”. HSF said: “The HSF desires a restoration of power to Parliament and the executive, functioning as each is required by the constitution.” Dr Dlamini-Zuma has been singled out as one of the ministers who are abusing their powers as she consistently maintains her stance on the ban of tobacco.

Nasty C pops up in feud between Mabala Noise and Ambitiouz Ent.

– Dodgy record labels Ambitiouz Entertainment and Mabala Noise got into a hilarious twar recently

– It all started when Mabala Noise reacted to Ambitiouz Entertainment posting their former artist, Sjava

– Of course, Ambitiouz couldn’t take the jab lying down

It’s always a good time when two dodgy and outspoken entities go toe to toe in an epic twar.

This was the case when Mabala Noise and Ambitiouz Entertainment recently went at each other.

The two record labels have both been embroiled in their fair share of drama with their former artists.

So, it was really a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

It all started when Ambitiouz Entertainment posted their former artist, Sjava.

Mabala likened the post to them posting their former artist, Nasty C.

Ambitiouz spicily responded, “And this is the only hit you’ll get to have ever since he left.”

Mabala countered with, “This is what you wasted two hours on? Challenge us more maybe? We are bored.”

Ambitiouz then said, “It’s because we are busy producing (hits) bruh. I can’t say the same about you guys. Hence you have time for fights.”

Mabala didn’t get the shade because whoever is in charge of Ambitiouz’s social media account is surely not the one making the hits.

Truthfully speaking, both of these stables are better off going back to the drawing board and figuring out why all their best artists end up leaving.

Illovuonline news recently reported that Sjava is the latest big-name artist to walk out on Ambitiouz Entertainment.

This after the star was rumoured to have been unhappy at the stable for months.

Today’s Eclipse Of The Moon Kicks-Off An ‘Eclipse Season’ Crowned By A Summer ‘Ring Of Fire’

By: illovuonline news team

From some parts of the world, tonight’s

Today there’s a “Strawberry Moon”—a full Moon—that from half the world is also a lunar eclipse.

Just like clockwork, this “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” kicks-off three eclipses:

5 Jun 2020: penumbral lunar eclipse—“Strawberry Moon Eclipse”

June 21, 2020: annular solar eclipse—“Ring of Fire”

4 July: penumbral lunar eclipse—“Thunder Moon Eclipse”

Together they make an “eclipse season,” but why?

The three eclipses—one solar and two

What is an ‘eclipse season?’

Eclipses do not happen by chance and neither do they happen alone; a solar eclipse—which can only happen at New Moon when the Moon is between the Earth and Sun—is always accompanied by a lunar eclipse at the full Moon either two weeks before or two weeks after. Sometimes both. Sometimes there are two solar eclipses in a row separated by a lunar eclipse.

Either way, that’s an “eclipse season.” Here’s why.

Eclipse seasons happen because the Moon’s orbit of…

Why do we have ‘eclipse seasons?’

Eclipse seasons are a period of between 31 and 37 days that occurs ever 173 days—so around twice per year. They occur when the Moon is perfectly lined-up either between the Sun and Earth (for a solar eclipse) or behind the Earth when it’s lined-up with the Sun (for a lunar eclipse). Eclipse seasons happen because the Moon’s orbit of Earth is tilted by 5º. It therefore crosses the plane of Earth’s orbit of the Sun twice per month. Those two positions are called nodes, and it’s only when the Moon is at those nodes during New Moon or full Moon that an eclipse is caused.

When the Moon does reach one of those nodes, it’s going to hit the other eclipse node two weeks later, and sometimes for a third time two weeks after that, too.

A penumbral lunar eclipse from Cardiff, Wales.

JAMIE CARTER

What, where and when is the ‘Strawberry Moon Eclipse?’

That will happen later today, but know that it won’t be a dramatic “blood Moon,” That’s slang for a total lunar eclipse, which sees our satellite move through the Earth’s darkest shadow in space. Instead, what will happen later will be a penumbral lunar eclipse.

British Library digitised image from page 64 of “A

What is a penumbral lunar eclipse?

Earth’s penumbra is its outer, fuzzy shadow, and a penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and the full Moon are almost, but not quite, aligned with each other.

Is the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” partial or total?

The “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” is actually a partial penumbral lunar eclipse since—like almost all such eclipses—only a portion of the full Moon drifts into Earth’s outer penumbral shadow. A total penumbral lunar eclipse, which swallows-up all of the Moon, won’t happen again until March 16, 2128.

Visibility for the “Strawberry Moon” partial

When and where is the ‘Strawberry Moon Eclipse?’

During the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” the full Moon will drift into Earth’s shadow for a few hours as seen from Earth’s night-side at 17:45 UTC today, peaking at 19:24 UTC and ceasing at 21:04 UTC. That means it will be visible in its entirety from Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and Eastern Europe.

During the event, 57% of the disk of the full Moon will drift into Earth’s shadow causing our satellite to lose a portion of its dramatic brightness.

However, eclipses almost never come alone.

The path of the annular solar eclipse on June 21.

What, where and when is the ‘Ring of Fire’ solar eclipse?’

June 21, 2020: Two weeks after the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” there will be an annular solar eclipse.

The same phenomenon that causes supermoons—the Moon’s elliptical orbit of Earth—means that on this date the New Moon’s apparent size will be smaller than the Sun’s. So as it reaches the point of New Moon it will cover only 99.5% of the Sun’s disk. Cue an incredibly slender “ring of fire” solar eclipse.

An annular solar eclipse visible from Indonesia on.

Solar eclipses are visible from a narrow path across Earth’s surface—the Moon’s shadow—beginning at sunrise at one location in the west and ending at another at sunset in the east.

This one will begin in the the Democratic Republic of Congo, then be visible in South Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Oman, Pakistan, India, China and Taiwan, ceasing in Guam.

On June 21, 2020 it begins at 03:45 UTC, peaks at 06:40 UTC and ends at 09:34 UTC (so that’s mostly June 20 in North America).

On July 4/5, 2020 there will be another partial.

What, where and when is the ‘Thunder Moon Eclipse?’

July 4/5, 2020: Here’s one for North America. The exact same kind of eclipse as the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse”—a partial penumbral lunar eclipse—will occur two weeks after the “ring of fire” at the next full Moon.

Visible from South America, North America and Africa, the “Thunder Moon Eclipse” will see just 35% of the Moon covered by Earth’s penumbra, so will be a very slight effect to observers.

During the “Thunder Moon Eclipse” the full Moon will drift into Earth’s shadow for a few hours as seen from Earth’s night-side at 03:07 UTC, peaking at 04:29 UTC and ceasing at 05:52 UTC.

Total solar eclipse from Vicuña in Chile, July 2.

When is the next ‘eclipse season?’

A double eclipse season begins on November 29-30, 2020 when yet another partial penumbral lunar eclipse—a “Frosty Moon Eclipse”—will see 83% of the Moon will be covered by Earth’s penumbra. It will be visible from North and South America, Australia and East Asia.

It will be a precursor—at the next New Moon on December 14, 2020—to what is surely the celestial sight of the year: a total solar eclipse visible from Chile and Argentina.

Here’s a Google Map—and it’s one that you should (travel restrictions permitting) use to get yourself under the Moon’s shadow on that date. The prize will be one of the sights of your life—totality!

Now that’s the eclipse season to get really excited about.

Wishing you clear skies and wide eyes.

SASSA systems offline: ‘Please try again’ message has applicants fuming

It’s been a grim week for the South African Social Security Agency.

SASSA has reported that a number of online services, aimed at assisting applicants and beneficiaries, are inaccessible due to a technical failure.

The announcement, issued by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) on Thursday evening, comes at a critical time for desperate citizens. The unique Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant, approved by President Cyril Ramaphosa to lighten the financial burden on the country’s unemployed during lockdown, has been marred by inconsistencies and delays.

SASSA, which has been tasked with managing the R350 SRD grant, has been bogged down by administrative failures resulting from an overwhelming application process. The grant, which was announced in April and effectively ratified in May, has only funded 2% of all applicants, causing widespread public frustration.

SASSA SERVICES OFFLINE, FURTHER FRUSTRATING APPLICANTS

Recent initiatives, including an online submission tracker and dedicated digital application platform, have been dealt consecutive technical blows, adding further strain to the backlog. On Thursday, SASSA issued a statement concerning the latest bout of digital downtime, saying:

“Apologies we are offline for the following services: Bank details upload, status checking on the Website, Web applications. Our technicians are working to resolve the problem. If you get this screen please ignore and try again tomorrow.”

The message was met with fierce criticism and condemnation, primarily by despondent applicants who, despite registering for the R350 SRD grant weeks earlier, had still not received any form of payment.

This latest technical glitch, which has impacted services to millions of vulnerable South Africans, follows a week of delayed grant payments and never-ending queues outside SASSA offices.

DELAYS AND BACKLOGS CRIPPLED FAITH IN SASSA

SASSA CEO, Busisiwe Memela, argued that delays were related to the administrative vetting processes. Expanding on the figures, Memela said that SASSA had received 13 million enquiries or applications for the R350 SRD grant; of these, only 6.3 million were deemed to be valid.

Additionally, grants paid to the elderly and disabled have also been impacted. In an attempt to better service beneficiaries, SASSA reopened its offices following a protracted period of lockdown-induced dormancy. The agency, which has only allocated 30% staff capacity to assist beneficiaries, has been overwhelmed at its offices and collection points.

As a result, beneficiaries hoping to receive assistance have been forced to sleep outside SASSA offices and endure seemingly never-ending queues.

The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Shadow Minister of Social Development, Bridget Masango, has confirmed that a complaint has been lodged with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in this regard. Masango argues that SASSA’s incompetence has led to ‘inhumane queues’ and the degradation of dignity.

Exactly When And Where You Can See Friday’s ‘Strawberry Moon Eclipse’ And A Weird ‘Moon Illusion’

By: illovuonline news team
04-06-2020

The full moon shines red behind a high tension

The full “Strawberry Moon” will rise on the evening of Friday, June 5, 2020.

No, it won’t look red like a strawberry. Banish, too, all thoughts of a this being “blood Moon.” Even the “eclipse” aspect of this event may be out of reach from where you are. However, what is definitely happening across the entire planet is a view of the “Strawberry Moon”—and it’s going to look larger than life!

As seen from the northern hemisphere the “Strawberry Moon”—so-called because it’s harvest time for the soft fruit—will be the latest-rising, and among the largest-looking full Moons of 2020.

What is the ‘Strawberry Moon Eclipse?’

While the term ‘Strawberry Moon” simply refers to June’s full Moon (though it’s also called the “Hot Moon”), the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” refers to the fact that this full Moon will pass into Earth’s outer shadow in space. Visible to observers in Asia, Africa and Australia, 57% of the “Strawberry Moon Eclipse” will be covered by Earth’s penumbral shadow during this event.

However, to everyone else on the planet, the “Strawberry Moon” will simply be a full Moon. That said, to those of us in the northern hemisphere, the fact that this is the nearest full Moon to the Summer solstice—when the Sun is at its highest in the sky—means this “Strawberry Moon” is one of the latest rising, and lowest full Moons of the year.

Best time to look at the ‘Strawberry Moon’

Gaze at a full Moon high in the sky and it will be too bright, too white and too dazzling to look at for more than a few seconds. However, catch a moonrise or moonset—particularly around the time of a full Moon—and you’ll see delicate and dulled hues of orange, yellows and even pinks when it’s close to the horizon.

The full “Strawberry Moon” will occur at 19:12 UTC on June 5, 2020, which gives moon-gazers two fabulous opportunities to watch the full Moon both set (around dawn) and rise (around dusk).

When to see the ‘Strawberry Moon’

Find out the exact times of moonset and moonrise on Friday for your location. Here are some sample times for three cities:

London: 5:15 a.m. BST and 9:01 p.m. BST

New York: 5:18 a.m. ET and 8:23 p.m. ET

Los Angeles: 5:37 a.m PT and 8:17 p.m. PT

Where and when to look for the ‘Strawberry Moon’

For the moonset on Friday morning, get to a place where you can watch the Moon fall towards the western horizon. Get in position about 20 minutes beforehand.

For the moonrise on Friday evening, get to a place where you can watch the Moon appear on the eastern horizon. Get in position at the quoted time and be prepared to wait for up to 15 minutes to see it appear. Be patient! It will appear and it will look magnificent … clear skies allowing.

When to see the ‘Strawberry Moon Eclipse’

If you’re in Asia, Australia, Europe, or Africa then you may also be able to detect the penumbral lunar eclipse—though be warned that it will most likely be a subtle effect. It begins at 17:45 UTC, peaks at 57% eclipsed at 19:24 UTC, and ends at 21:04 UTC.

From London the “Strawberry Moon” will be eclipsed as it rises, which could be interesting (it will be a little less bright than usual), though the best places to see this eclipse will be central and southern Africa, the Middle East, India, China and Australia.

What is the ‘Moon illusion?’

Wherever you are in the northern hemisphere, be warned that the “Strawberry Moon” may seem pretty darned big. It’s an optical illusion. For some reason, the human brain tends to see things that are close to the horizon as particularly large. This “Moon illusion” is why the full Moon will, on Friday evening, look larger as it rises compared to a few hours later when it will be higher in the sky. It’s got something to do with context; the sight of the full Moon coming up between trees, besides buildings, or above mountains, visually places it in an environment and makes it seem larger than it really is.

However, this month there is a slightly extended version of the effect because the Moon will be hanging very low in the sky, and it will be closer to the horizon for slightly longer.

Why does a full Moonrise look so colorful?

The science is the same as for sunrises and sunsets. “Of course, the Moon and Sun have not changed color—it’s just the way that the light is getting to your eye is different,” says Dr. Jackie Faherty, Senior Scientist and Senior Education Manager jointly in the Department of Astrophysics and the Department of Education at the American Museum of Natural History. “When you’re looking straight across to the horizon you’re looking through the largest amount of Earth’s atmosphere, and the thickest part of the atmosphere.” As a result, the blue light gets scattered. “You’re left with the longer wavelengths of light—so yellow and red end up being the color that pass through to your eyes.”

Wishing you clear skies and wide eyes.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says it has kept the promise to pay at least 100 000 clients who applied for the Special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress.

In a statement on Tuesday the Agency said, “By 31 May 2020, 116 867 clients were paid for the Special Covid-19 SRD Grant. In addition, to date, over 3.5 million were checked to confirm if they are either active Sassa grant recipients, are on UIF database or receive a NSFAS stipend.”

The Agency said it had received around 13 million enquiries and applications about the temporary Special Covid-19 SRD Grant as at Monday 25 May 2020.

“About 6.3 million of these were valid complete applications. The rest were either duplicate applications, incomplete, had inconsistent data, or were just pure enquiries,” said Sassa CEO Busisiwe Memela.

Sassa said the progress had been made as follows:

* About 1 236 492 clients were being finalised through verification by SARS to confirm if they have an income.

* Total 666 381 clients had been approved and Sassa was awaiting bank details information.

* Over 1 597 127 had been disapproved since the applicants had other means of income.

Applicants were reminded to respond immediately to the SMS received from Sassa and provide their banking details through the secure link.

“This will enable Sassa to ensure payments are processed without delay to all eligible applicants.”

There is no cut-off date for applications for this special relief grant.

“Anyone who meets the qualifying criteria, should lodge an application without delay,” Sassa said.

Beneficiaries can also check the status of their applications online at https://srd.sassa.gov/za/sc19/status or by adding GovChat Whatsapp on 082 046 8553, open chat, type “Status” and send.

Sassa had also successfully implemented the increase of the child support grant by R300 per child and an additional R500 per caregiver from June to October 2020. All other existing grants were increased by R250 per month from May to October 2020 (except for Grant in Aid).

Mzansi Magic’s popular telenovela The River has stopped shooting to allow the set to be disinfected after one of its cast and crew members tested positive for COVID-19.

The cast and crew on Tuesday came together to offer empathy and support to a colleague who tested positive for the novel virus which has already claimed more than 700 lives in South Africa.

In a statement released by Tshedza Pictures, which produces the show, the company said it has since halted shooting and all cast and crew members have been asked to self-isolate while the necessary health protocols are being implemented.

The show’s co-producer Phathu Makwarela said ever since they resumed with production on 1 May 2020, all the necessary lockdown health guidelines were implemented on set.

“After I received the news of the colleague testing positive, we immediately asked the cast and crew that came into contact with the member to go into self-isolation. They will soon avail themselves to health authorities for testing in line with government directives”, he said.

Nomusa Philiso, Channel director for local entertainment Channels at M-Net states: “We have contacted the production team in order to assure them of our support. Our understanding is that ever since they resumed production, the production team implemented all the necessary health precautions to ensure the safety of cast and crew.

“Now more than ever we need to show compassion to our fellow brothers and sisters and we would like to wish the affected member of the production team a speedy recovery,” she said.
