Zakes Batwini is over the moon about getting accepted at Harvard University – The star made the announcement as he celebrated his 40th birthday –

Zakes couldn’t wait to bite into his custom-made Harvard birthday cake.

It was Zakes Batwini’s 40th birthday yesterday and he has a lot to celebrate. The star has been accepted to the prestigious Harvard University. Zakes showed off his fabulous red, white and black Harvard-themed birthday cake.

He wrote, “Black child from the ghetto, it’s possible.” Zakes’ wife, Nandi Madida, was quick to hop onto social media to congratulate the muso. She said, “What an incredible birthday gift. So proud of you – being accepted at Harvard University is an incredible milestone.

Happy 40th birthday to my husband, my best friend, my confidant, my heart. I love you!” Fans rushed to Zakes’ mentions to congratulate him. One fan wrote, “I just love how Nandi has always been his number one fan. Lucky man he is. Happy birthday king and congratulations.” Nandi and Zakes have indeed always been total couple goals. And they’ve been a great support to each other during this difficult time of lockdown. Two months ago, illovuonline news reported that Zakes had organised an intimate lockdown birthday celebration for Nandi.

He also made sure to keep his wife entertained by constantly doing things to cheer her the singer and entrepreneur up. Nandi posted a hilarious video showcasing one of his coronavirus sanitising spoofs – Zakes certainly could make it as a comedian in another life.

SAA says it’s not yet possible to resume operations beyond South Africa’s borders in a sustainable manner.

SAA will be in operation from mid-June, providing domestic flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

This position will be periodically reviewed.

The airline said it was cancelling all planned scheduled flights on regional and international services until the end of June 2020 with immediate effect.

Philip Saunders, SAA’s chief commercial officer, said the decision has been taken as a result of the continuing global impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Many restrictive rules and regulations still apply to civil aviation across the world. On this basis, it is not yet possible to resume operations beyond SA’s borders in a sustainable manner, he said.

“Everyone at SAA is looking forward to welcoming and serving our customers once again. Our operational preparedness is underlined by the significant role the airline has played in global repatriations to and from South Africa, and by our desire to serve the domestic market,” Saunders said.

The airline said all customers will be able to use their ticket’s full value as a credit for travel on any SAA service up to March 24 2022.

SAA will also permit a free name change if any individual customer no longer wishes to travel. The airline said this represents an important part of SAA’s continued commitment to support its customers in these unprecedented times.

A general view of the entrance of the Cape Town Mediclinic in Gardens, Cape Town.

Twenty-six people have tested positive for Covid-19 at Mediclinic Cape Town, management confirmed.

“Nearly 300 potential contacts have been tested, with the majority of these returning negative results,” Dr Stefan Smuts, the chief clinical officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa said in a statement.

Smuts said 26 people, including 15 health workers, had tested positive. He said the group was currently in isolation at home until they recover.

“Mediclinic has made arrangements for those staff requiring accommodation to safely self-isolate and will offer daily support during this time.

“Managers will do daily check-ins with staff and counselling has been offered where needed.

“As the safety of our patients, staff and doctors is our number one priority, Mediclinic has intensified both internal and external processes guiding our response.

“In accordance with our stringent protocols, Mediclinic immediately reviewed the situation to identify, as a matter of urgency, all staff, doctors and patients potentially exposed,” Smuts said.

The national department of health also has firm processes in place governing contact tracing of those exposed to a positive individual, Smuts said.

“Mediclinic acted swiftly to mitigate the risk to all involved and we can assure the community that we have established procedures relating to staff exposure, the risk thereof and testing. Testing has been expanded and will continue until everyone on site has been tested, including all patients, doctors, employees and service providers based at the hospital.”

The medical group also strictly adheres to infection prevention and control protocols, as laid out by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) and World Health Organisation.

“As such, to ensure the safety of our patients, doctors and staff, we will continue with our containment plan, which entails conducting a strict proactive risk assessment at the hospital … until May 29.

“During this period of assessment, testing and cleansing and disinfection, no new admissions apart from emergencies will be accepted at the facility to allow all necessary protocols to be followed.”

Smuts said: “The Covid-19 pandemic poses a serious challenge to South Africa and its citizens and Mediclinic is committed to playing our part in supporting the national department of health where required.”

South Africa’s lockdown levels are now based on 2 criteria: Dlamini-Zuma

By: illovuonline news team

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has provided further information about the country’s planned move to a level 3 lockdown from 1 June.

Presenting to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday (26 May), Dlamini-Zuma said that government’s risk-adjusted approach to the lockdown is now focused on two criteria:

The rate of coronavirus infections; and

Government’s health-system readiness.

Dlamini-Zuma said that it would also be these two criteria would determine how districts move between lockdown levels.

“The extraordinary measures have assisted us, as at the beginning of the lockdown we were not ready. It is has given a chance to get our health services up and ready for the pandemic.

“We also have to look at the socio-economic impact of the coronavirus. As we rebuild the economy we must look at building sustainable resilient and sustainable communities.”

She pointed to the below alert system diagram which shows how the virus spread and readiness-levels will be used.

Dlamini-Zuma also presented a map of the country’s major districts and how the differing lockdown levels could be applied.

While Dlamini-Zuma indicated that this is just an outline of how the alert levels will work, it does show how much of the country outside of the major metropolitans could move to lower levels.

Based on this district-level approach, Dlamini-Zuma confirmed that inter-provincial travel will not be allowed except for business and funerals.

She said that this decision was taken as most of the country’s coronavirus cases have been reported in the major metropolitans and would lead to a spike in infections in other parts of South Africa.

“People will travel up and down and before we know it, provinces we think are safer have become infected. It’s not a nice think to keep travel restricted but I don’t think we have a choice at this time.”

Dlamini-Zuma also touched on some of the regulatory complaints that the government has received during the lockdown period – including a wave of litigation.

She noted that the government has been inundated with cases on a near-daily basis challenging part of the regulations.

President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Churches, mosques, temples, synagogues and other places of worship will be allowed to open their doors from June 1.

“Places of worship may reopen, subject to strict restrictions – which are absolutely necessary,” President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Tuesday night.

“Churches, synagogues, mosques, temples and other recognised places of worship may resume services. But these will be limited in size to 50 people or less, depending on the space available.”

Religious leaders would be “recognised as essential religious frontline workers”, said Ramaphosa.

During his national address on Sunday, Ramaphosa said the government had “fruitful discussions” with the religious community over the opening of spiritual worship and counselling services “subject to certain norms and standards”.

“We have all agreed to have further discussions on this issue and are confident we will find a workable solution,” he said.

Ramaphosa said on Tuesday that the national coronavirus command council had decided to “accede to the proposals” made by religious leaders, in accordance with “certain norms and standards”.

– Nasty C has hinted that he might change his name to Ivyson

– This after the rapper was sued by his old labels

– Nasty is also excited to have recently embarked on an acting career

Late last year reports emerged of Nasty C’s former label demanding that the rapper drop his stage name.

Nasty has revealed that the change could really be happening.

The 23 year-old was initially signed to FreeWorld Music before transferring to Mabala Noise.

He then left Mabala Noise for Def Jam – now both FreeWorld and Mabala are suing him for breach of contract and unpaid services.

Freeworld Music is demanding R4.5 million from Nasty and also wants him to drop the name that they gave him.

During and interview for Netflix’s Blood And Water premiere, Nasty revealed that he might change his name to Ivyson.

Earlier this month, illovuonline news reported that Nasty had bagged himself a role on the Netflix SA original series Blood And Water.

Over 100 000 viewers tuned in to watch the premiere of the highly-anticipated drama.

It is the second Netflix original African series after the super lit Queen Sono.

Social media has not stopped since the show aired and fans are ready for a second season.

In fact, Blood And Water is the first South African original to take the number one spot on Netflix US.

It has also taken the number one spot in countries like France, Bahamas, Jamaica and many others.

Wow!

Winter, COVID-19, HIV and TB could be deadly cocktail for SA, scientists warn

By: illovuonline news team
26-05-2020

The first snow of winter settled on the mountains of the Klein Karoo on May 26 2020.

Eight scientists, including SA Medical Research Council head Prof Glenda Gray, have sent a chilling warning about the toll Covid-19 could take as winter sets in.

The scientists compared the virus with the H1N1 outbreak which infected more than 12,000 South Africans and killed 90 between July and October in 2009.

“The incidence of infections declined significantly during the transition from winter to spring, suggesting that winter, which is the typical season for influenza, may have been conducive to the spread of [H1N1],” they said in an SA Medical Journal editorial on Monday.

“Similarly, the colder temperatures in winter may be conducive to the spread of the Sars-Cov-2 virus [which causes Covid-19], as is the case for seasonal influenza.”

NEWS
🇿🇦🌍https://illovuonline.news.blog/

The scientists warned that surveillance strategies should evaluate the possibility of people becoming simultaneously infected with Covid-19 and seasonal influenza, “as co-infections could potentially increase disease severity and mortality”.

Gray and colleagues — including North West University deputy vice-chancellor Nancy Phaswana-Mafuya and the University of Cape Town’s Olive Shisana — said Covid-19 had displayed “extreme heterogeneity” across the world.

This made it critical that models for its transmission should be drawn up “in the context of rapidly changing individual, social and structural determinants in SA”.

The experience with H1N1, another respiratory pathogen, could inform such models, which were limited by “severely restricted” surveillance data on Covid-19.

The scientists said the initial 100 deaths from H1N1 were in the more affluent population and linked to travel, as they were with Covid-19.

Similarly, both outbreaks were most serious in metropolitan areas and moved quickly to lower socio-economic groups due to the difficulties of social distancing in overcrowded settings, the cost of hygiene products, lack of clean water and sanitation, and food insecurity.

“These extreme socio-economic disparities threaten the survival of vulnerable communities and have serious implications for estimating the potential impact of Covid-19,” said the scientists.

NEWS

HIV and TB were also associated with disease severity and death during the H1N1 outbreak, and the same was likely to be the case with Covid-19.

This would have serious implications since SA had the highest HIV burden in the world with around 71,000 Aids deaths annually, and 63,000 TB deaths.

There were two main risks of the combination of Covid-19 and HIV or TB, the scientists said. The first was that the disease would be more severe in such patients, and the second was that HIV and TB prevention and treatment programmes would be disrupted by the health-care system’s preoccupation with Covid-19.

Integrating these factors into mathematical models was “critical in informing contextually appropriate public health interventions, potential emergency and hospital-care resources, policy and governance”.
