Nasty C on what he plans to bring to Def Jam: ‘I’m going to do me as best as I can’

Nasty C is excited about who he’s set to become under Def Jam Records.

Since the news broke that Nasty C had signed an impressive international record deal with world-renowned US entertainment company Def Jam Records, the rapper believes he deserves everything that’s coming his way.

In March, Billboard reported that Nasty had signed a deal that comes as a joint venture with Universal Music Africa.

Though life has come to a halt for most artists due to the coronavirus pandemic, Nasty expressed his excitement about joining the record label once life gets back to normal during a podcast interview with illovuonline news.

“Man it’s exciting, it’s very exciting because I really put in the work. I just keep my head down and work, I overwork myself even and it pays off … that’s the one thing I believe in.”

Nasty explained that the record deal meant he’d have to live in the States for months at a time and will also see him come back to SA every now and then.

“I’ll always have a place to live here because I don’t want to live anywhere else besides SA, but I do have to move in the States so I’m there a bit more and people get to see my face a bit more and to also interact with me.”

Nasty explained he plans to give the US audience and world at large the real version of himself and be “as authentic as possible”.

“I’ve never been one to change because of what people think about me or because they don’t like me. So, I will keep doing music and it’s been working so far.

“I’ve just got a bigger platform to really bring all my ideas I have in my head to life the right way, with the right quality … things are going to get a little more crazier from now forth,” Nasty quipped.

When asked how he felt about being the first to pave the way for the younger generation of South African artists, Nasty gave them words of advice, saying, “Just work hard and keep telling yourself you deserve everything in the world, or whatever you want to get in life. Never feel like you’re not worth it because you come from a ‘not so good’ background.”

Nasty explained that such a mentality was very toxic, which he partly blamed on societal norms.

“That’s how people are, they feel like they don’t deserve the world and I try to do the opposite and be extra at doing. I guess that’s how I keep doing these outrageous things.”

Covid-19: What if you get sick? Advice on how to plan for it

South Africans should make contingency plans in case they get a moderate-to-severe case of Covid-19.

As the coronavirus pandemic spreads, planning for the possibility of getting sick is worth taking seriously.

Professor Shabir Moosa, a family physician with the Johannesburg Health District and University of the Witwatersrand, says that while about 80% of people will get mild symptoms, it is important to plan in case there is a need for hospitalisation, and especially if one is living alone.

Professor Shahana Rasool, at the Department of Social Work at the University of Johannesburg, says that thinking through the details can be very beneficial if it helps someone feel more prepared in the face of uncertainty. She says: “For some people who want a sense of control, it could actually help, but for others it could increase anxiety.”

“The isolation area is a particular problem,” says Moosa. He recommends that every household designate a room or part of the house where a sick person could stay separated, but acknowledges that this will be very difficult for many South Africans who live in crowded conditions. If this cannot be accommodated, he recommends wearing masks inside the home and moving particularly vulnerable but healthy family members to another household if possible.

For single parents or those living alone, Moosa says there is a vulnerability from that isolation and that support systems matter greatly.

Rasool says, “it would be really important that there’s someone who has regular contact with the [ill] person who maybe lives alone.” She recommends designating a person for this and asking them to check in once a day or regularly via text or a call.

Rasool says there should also be someone “who maybe has a list of things that you have put in place that they are aware of”. This includes having the details of medical schemes or other important documents. The person should know about chronic medication and whether there is a preference for which hospital the ill person would want to go to.

She also advises for those people who live alone to have an extra set of keys available somewhere in case they get sick and are not mobile. This may include speaking to neighbours about what to do in an emergency situation.

If there are children, the contingency plans should be explained to them, and the person who would take care of them in an emergency should be someone the children trust.

Practical precautions could include making sure that there is some basic medication in the house, such as painkillers, as well as reasonable amounts of non-perishable foods that would lower the need to restock while sick. Moosa says: “Just have a little bit extra in the house assuming that you may be stuck for two weeks, if not a month.”

The key for mild cases is to keep the sick person comfortable and to treat symptoms, but it may be useful to locate or decide on the nearest health facility or health provider in case of a more severe case.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) advises that the primary point of call during the illness is one’s local clinic or general practitioner. The NICD says: “If you have any warning signs, you or a member of your household should call your nearest hospital or emergency services immediately.”

These emergency warning signs include chest pain and coughing up blood, but Moosa advises that there is one key symptom to look out for: “If they have even an inkling of shortness of breath, they should get to the hospital because that can deteriorate very quickly.”

Rasool says that one can prepare for this by keeping a small clothes bag ready in case there is need for hospitalisation.

While there are designated hospitals in each province for managing Covid-19 cases, Gauteng spokesperson for the department of health Kwara Kekana says that one can approach any hospital in an emergency, because most of them have dedicated Covid-19 wards. She says, “If they cannot treat you or handle the case you will then be taken to another facility.”

Moosa says this may also be a time to think about estate planning and drawing up a will.

‘Do not go to church, you’re going to die, it’s a trap,’ says Malema

‘We are led by fools, non-thinkers, people sitting on top of their brains,’ the EFF leader added.

The EFF has slammed President Cyril Ramaphosa for moving the country to Level 3 of the nationwide lockdown, along with the reopening of schools, certain sectors of the economy and churches.

Party leader Julius Malema said Ramaphosa, when he addressed the nation on Sunday calling on people to become more responsible for their own well-being during the fight against the coronavirus, had turned his back on his constitutional oath.

“He was telling us that he is no longer in charge. He has surrendered the country to the looming Covid-19 catastrophe, for the benefit of white monopoly profit interests,” he added.

The EFF held its first media briefing on Thursday since the pandemic broke out in the country.

“Do not go to church, you going to die, it’s a trap, a set-up,” said Malema.

On Tuesday, Ramaphosa announced the government had acceded to faith leaders’ cries to be allowed to congregate under Level 3.

Malema pleaded with religious leaders to not open their places of worship, saying if they indeed care for their congregations and had high moral standards they would keep them out of danger.

He made an example of the case in Bloemfontein, where 67 people contracted the virus while attending a church event. ACDP leaders Kenneth Meshoe and Steve Swart as well as evangelist Angus Buchan were among those infected.

Malema called on EFF members to not attend church services.

“We call upon the caring leaders of religion not to connive with white capital to kill black people. Our people can still pray at home.”

The red berets’ commander-in-chief said he believed the country should remain at Level 5, with a Level 6 being introduced in the Western Cape, which is the epicentre of the virus in the country.

He also took at dig at the president and government, questioning why restaurants were left out, while churches, which did not even contribute to the country’s economy, were being opened.

“Restaurants already practiced social distancing even before social distancing. Hygiene is number one at restaurants. There are inspectors hired by municipalities that inspect the compliance of restaurants,” Malema said.

Stay at home

He also hit out at the government’s plans to reopen schools, urging parents not to take their children to schools until they had complied with health and safety standards.

Malema said pupils queued and made use of the same taps to drink water and travelled together, often in congested buses and taxis to get to school, which meant they were vulnerable to exposure even outside of their different places of learning.

“We are led by fools, non-thinkers, people sitting on top of their brains,” he added, saying the plans put in place reflected a government either not aware of the schooling system and its challenges in the country or were planning for elite institutions.

Malema, giving an anecdote of his own children, said children would not stick to wearing masks, adding when he tried it with his boys they took it off complaining of feeling suffocated.

The EFF leader also questioned the impact of exposed children on their elderly parents and grandparents.

Chaos in parliament as EFF demands racial breakdown of Covid-19 cases

By: illovuonline news team

Things spiralled out of control in a parliamentary sitting as the EFF demanded a racial breakdown of Covid-19 statistics – Shivambu demanded that Covid-19 statistics should include race and not just age and geographical area –

The Covid-19 virus has nothing to do with statistics and has to do with more important things, says Dr Zweli Mkhize.

The first National Assembly sitting since the Covid-19 lockdown started descended into chaos as the EFF demanded a racial breakdown of all the people who had tested positive for the coronavirus. The Red Berets were unrelenting in their quest to find answers. MP Naledi Chirwa demanded that Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize should tell everyone the number of black people who have been infected and and those who have died as well as the number of white people.

An impatient Chirwa interjected while the minister was attending to the question and simply demanded nothing but numbers. Chirwa referenced the US, UK and Canada, saying they give out the race statistics in their Covid-19 reporting. Chirwa said: “Minister, in the UK, race-based stats were able to bring to the fore that black people are four times more likely to get coronavirus than white people. And in the US, race-based stats were able to expose the divide when it comes to access to healthcare.

Then in Canada, race-based stats were used to predict and pre-empt hotspots” Chirwa said race statistics matter and have been used for other viruses, Covid-19 should not be an exception: Dr Zweli Mkhize responded to Chirwa, saying the spread of Covid-19 has nothing to do with race but rather about “social conditions” such as social distancing and adhering to all the safety measures such as wearing masks.

The minister went on to say what they have seen as important is the question of pre-existing health conditions and access to quality health services. The spirit of camaraderie appeared alive and well in the EFF as Chirwa’s colleagues rushed to her corner. MPs Floyd Shivambu, Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi backed Chirwa, demanding the minister give out this information. Shivambu said: “On a point of order, speaker.

The minister has been giving statistics in terms of the age and the areas where people have been impacted by the coronavirus. What is difficult about giving us the racial composition?”

Speaker of parliament Thandi Modise ruled Shivambu out of order and called for his mic to be muted, saying “The minister has responded to this question.” Ndlozi and Mkhaliphi had differing views to the speaker of parliament and continued to demand a racial breakdown of the Covid-19 numbers.

Things quickly spiralled as out of control as MPs started speaking over each other until the mute function of Microsoft Teams had to be used, but it wasn’t before Ndlozi took a shot at Modise. Ndlozi attacked Modise, saying: “You see, speaker, it is this attitude that made you be complicit when Marikana [massacre] was occurring – of refusing to press out proper information from those….” Ndlozi was cut off before finishing his sentence, but the speaker took an offence to the comment about the Marikana massacre that claimed the lives of 34 miners.

She responded saying: “I was not complicit in Marikana … and this is not a platform to try and justify it. I have nothing to do with Marikana and therefore you cannot even drag my name into this thing.” The speaker of parliament then closed her episode. To date, the country has 25 937 confirmed Covid-19 cases with a total of 552 deaths.

Halala: Man who didn’t have shoes to wear, starts own sneaker company

Lekau Sehoana grew up in poverty and often didn’t have shoes to wear – Today, he’s the founder of Drip Footwear and unveiled his new Midrand office – The company has hired 12 employees and social media users reacted to the wonderful news.

It may be a slight exaggeration to say that Lekau Sehoana went from rags to riches within a few years. The young entrepreneur still has a long way to go, but he’s already come a long way. While in high school, Sehoana lived in poverty and often had no shoes to wear. Back then, getting a meal was the primary objective and receiving a pair of shoes more of an afterthought.

illovuonline news team gathered that through the struggles, so his passion for sneakers was born. In fact, Tembisan reported that his journey was inspired by his desperation to modify a tattered pair of Adidas sneakers to make them wearable. This was as a result of his school having a casual day in 2003 and the sneakers became a big hit.

In 2019, the young entrepreneur launched Drip Footwear, his own sneaker label. Sehoana took to Twitter to share the exciting news of his new Midrand office.

He also revealed that his store will be hiring 12 employees and illovuonline news shared some of the positive reactions.

Mr_Moremi (@MO__Modise) said, “Congratulations continue dripping in success.”

Twitter user @XPEEZY (@ObertXP) added, “I wore yellow drip to a staff function, it was the talk of the day. Everyone kept asking me about the label that’s when I realised am dripping for real.”

Beekeeper (@JustIma40441807) responded, “Fantastic! Well done. Keep growing and shining.” Emyoli. (@_yoliswaa) said, “Black excellence. Love to see it.”

We all know that Lasizwe is gay and also a bit too young for kids – However, the 21-year-old reality television star keeps insisting that he has a daughter – He even posted images of the cutie pie on his social media account.

Lasizwe is at it again with his outlandish claims. The latest thing for the reality television star to claim is a whole baby. Lasizwe says he’s got a daughter and has even posted pictures of her, the latest one being on his Instagram account.

He captioned the pic, “The best gift I could ever ask for, I love my daughter so much!” Lasizwe also posted a video of himself holding the adorable baby on his Twitter account. Fans really don’t believe that the baby is Lasizwe’s.

Senthu Gumede commented, “For real for real?? Stop this. Where’s her parents??”

Lasizwe responded, “Jeezzz, Guys! I didn’t make a mistake when I was writing the caption.”

Unfortunately for Lasizwe, it will take a lot for people to believe him because he’s known for embellishing. Two years ago, illovuonline news reported that the YouTube sensation had bought himself a house in Sandton. However, it turned out a boyfriend had rented the property for him. Lasizwe also fanned rumours he was dating Skeem Saam actor Cedric Fourie, all in a bid to keep people glued to his MTV Base reality television show. However, Cedric let it be known that the pair would never be anything more than friends.

We’ll watch Covid-19 hotspots closely’

Minister of health Zweli Mkhize is concerned about areas identified as Covid-19 hotspots.

Health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has detailed measures on how the government will identify Covid-19 hotspots in the country.

This will be part of the country’s district-level lockdown as it moves to level 3.

The hotspots include Tshwane, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, eThekwini, Nelson Mandela Bay, Buffalo City, Cape Town, West Coast, Overberg, Cape Winelands, Chris Hani and iLembe in KZN.

Here is what you need to know about how hotspots are identified, according to Mkhize. Hotspots are areas that have more than five infected people per 100,000, or where the number of infections are increasing at a fast pace.

Presenting to the National Council of Provinces yesterday, Mkhize said districts would be identified in one of the following three ways:

-Areas of vigilance – fewer than five cases per 100,000 people.

-Emerging hotspots – fewer than five cases per 100,000 people, but increasing cases.

-Hotspots – more than five cases per 100,000 people.

Mkhize said the purpose of identifying hotspots was to be able to take all the measures necessary to control the rise of infections. He added that districts classified as hotspots could remain at level 4 with the intensive implementation of testing and restrictions.

He said if combined actions in hotspots did not contain the spread of infection, the area could return to a hard lockdown. Mkhize said hotspots would be under vigilance and close monitoring, adding that there will be containment measures for people with comorbidities.

Covid-19 hotspots face harder lockdowns as SA moves to level 3

As the country gears towards moving down to lockdown alert level 3 on June 1, districts classified as hotspots could return to alert level 4.

NEWS

“We need to make sure there are stringent measures according to each district. We are asking for vigilance and close monitoring in areas identified as hotspots.

“A district-level alert system will help to monitor those who need to take extra caution. Emerging hotspots must be watched vigilantly. We must focus on the emergence of new infections,” he said.

Mkhize said teams of experts were in place and they would concentrate on a very small catchment area.

He added that field hospitals would ensure that people with mild symptoms were in quarantine to prevent the spread of the infection.

“Teams of experts will work in hotspots to make sure they look after the health of individuals in those areas.

“Experts will concentrate on a very small catchment area. They will try to keep as many people away from hospitals by getting them treated by teams of general practitioners and nurses.” Additional measures in hotspots to contain the spread of the virus, according to Mkhize, would include the opening of routine health services.

Zweli Mkhize warns that Covid-19 hotspots could return to level 4 as country drops to level 3

As the country gears towards moving down to lockdown level 3 on June 1, districts classified as hotspots could return to level 4.

Lockdown: Mixed reaction from religious leaders to relaxed rules for gatherings

By: illovuonline news team

| Ramaphosa green lights religious gatherings under Level 3

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that religious gatherings of no more that 50 people will be allowed when the country shifts to lockdown Level 3 next week.

There is mixed reaction to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement that religious gatherings of up to 50 people will be permitted as the country braces itself for the Covid-19 peak.

The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) is “extremely happy” with the announcement but the Jesuit Institute is confused by the decision, given the spate of new infections linked to churches abroad.

“I think the community was yearning for it,” MJC secretary general Shaykh Isgaak Taliep said on Tuesday night.

Level 3: All health services fully opened to prevent emergence of other health crises

On Sunday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the opening of all health services to prevent other health crises.

“The Muslim community obviously made tremendous sacrifices with regards to not being able to attend places of worship and especially during the course of the month of Ramadaan,” said Taliep.

“But this statement is very welcomed.”

He said the MJC had worked with the government on these decisions and appreciated the way in which Ramaphosa consulted the religious fraternity.

However, the council said it was also aware of the need to proceed carefully, especially in the Western Cape which has the most cases of Covid-19 in the country.

He said Ramaphosa made clear the rules that congregants need to adhere to.

They had already become used to the new way of praying before the lockdown when services were limited to 100. Everybody is also used to wearing masks, sanitising, and social distancing.

There will still have to be some work done to make sure that everybody complies with the new restriction of 50 people.

‘Not a very wise decision’

But Father Russell Pollitt, director of the Jesuit Institute of South Africa, is confused by Ramaphosa’s surprise announcement.

Pollitt said the reopening of many churches abroad led to a sudden spike in infections.

“It seems to me that it is not a very wise decision,” said Pollitt.

He has many questions: Who gets to decide which 50 people would be allowed to attend a service? Will it be the religious leader’s favourites?

He also wants to know what will happen if gatherings exceed 50 people.

“Will the police barge in?” he asked.

EXPLAINER | All the rules churches, mosques have to follow when they reopen in June

He referred to churches which were not well funded in South Africa, asking where they would get the money for the required sanitisation regime.

Pollitt said he found it strange that people could not buy a cigarette and smoke it by themselves, but they could gather together in a building.

Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana, secretary general of the SA Council of Churches (SACC) told the SABC that all religious organisations were “at one on the appeal for the availability of spiritual ministrations to the South African public in the context of the anxieties of coronavirus”.

He said all faith groups were saying the same thing.

The SACC said the member churches offered their properties for victims of gender-based violence, extra space for classrooms, or quarantine spaces.

“If we can conduct funerals with 50 persons, why can’t we worship as 50? And it seems to make sense – why can’t we have weddings for 50?”

He said the services and ministrations that the churches want to do can be done within the number of 50. They have discussed being “Covid safe” because they “don’t want to fool around with the virus”.

‘We don’t want our churches to be gateways to the grave’

They have proposed a set of norms and standards, proposing to break up the congregation over the week, either according to the alphabet, or ages.

He said the majority of worshippers were people who “worship under trees” and could not access the internet or leave their homes. Now people could “go to their favourite tree” but while keeping numbers in mind.

They will wait for the regulations to be announced by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, and have already been meeting every Tuesday for a Covid-19 update. They will follow the rules.

“We don’t want our churches to be gateways to the grave,” he said.

He also hoped that all churches would adhere to the law and protect the safety of their people.

Earlier this week, African Christian Democratic Party’s Reverend Kenneth Meshoe questioned why schools were allowed to reopen but not churches.

He said he was concerned of an “anti-church attitude developing in South Africa”.
